But there have been plenty of threads here of people who had all kinds of customs problems with declared medication....

My son was held to ransom when his sisters sent him some Honey Locketts for his birthday.  Because he lives in Bangkok he suffers from a persistent cough.  It cost him far more than 35 baht to liberate them.  It's a scam; a thriving industry, for as long as I can remember.

No, they are for my personal use, and the contents of the package is not what I sought clarification on.

The issue of VAT came up some time ago, about Easter I think and was supposed to be implemented on all postal   packages from May.

I get a package from India every 3 months through Thai Post and fully expected a charge on the August delivery, didn't happen. Didn't happen either on the one I received yesterday, may well a hit and miss affair depending on source or area where received.

You are quite right about the contents, some prefer their interpretation but strikes me that personal use is not seen as importation, intention to sell may well be the criteria. I have been buying medication online for many years without a problem, the customs label has always been specific. There is also a copy of the prescription inside in case it gets opened, but never happened.

The cost of medication can vary quite a bit. I used to use Fascino with discount card but then saved quite significantly when I started using the pharmacy at the government hospital. I have had the steroid nasal spray so it is available, but came from the hospital pharmacy.

Hi Sandyf,

I too have my daughter put the most recent GP prescription just inside the package, lest customs decides to open it. And, like you, my packages have never noticeably been tampered with.

Regarding my Betamethasone nasal DROPS: Do you get that actual drug (drops, not spray) from the government hospital pharmacy, and what des it cost? My nearest government hospital is Pattaya City.
