The incident highlighted flight safety priorities. In the morning of 29th November, passengers aboard Thai AirAsia Flight FD 3242 experienced unexpected delays at Trang Airport when the aircraft failed to start due to technical engine issues. Originally scheduled to depart at 9:50 AM, the flight was postponed as technicians were called in from Bangkok for urgent repairs. Passengers waited for around an hour on the plane before being moved to a waiting area at 11:00 AM. Thai AirAsia arranged an alternative aircraft from Bangkok to accommodate the passengers. Despite heavy rain and flooding in Trang, the engine malfunction was not weather-related. The faulty plane returned empty to Bangkok for repairs once initial checks were complete. Airport Director Sureerat Tipyotha confirmed that passenger safety remained paramount. A replacement aircraft ensured those affected could continue to Don Mueang by 2:20 PM. Passengers were offered refreshments and choices to reschedule or refund their flights during the wait. The incident adhered to international aviation safety standards, with priority placed firmly on ensuring passenger and aircraft security, reported 77kaoded. -- 2024-11-30 1

I realize the engine did NOT start, however this shows that there is a problem with the 'engine', or associated startup sequence. These engines need correct maintenance, as they are complex, and if they have it there should be no problems, starting them or running them! In this case it would not start, could be many things that would cause that. From a switch, to the APU, to the igniter??? We don't know. However it did start at some point, because the article states........ "The faulty plane returned empty to Bangkok for repairs once initial checks were complete. " So repairs were needed to the engine, now that would mean something needed changing, replacing or fixing. This happened before the aircraft was carrying passengers, so as I said in my original comment. "These kinds of things happen all the time, good job any problem with the engine was found out on the ground, BEFORE it took off! "
impulse Posted 28 minutes ago Posted 28 minutes ago 1 hour ago, watchcat said: "the aircraft failed to start due to technical engine issues." infact the engine didn't start To be real pedantic, the aircraft failed to start. Does that mean the engine didn't start, or that the engine threw off error codes so they didn't start the flight? Hard to tell, since they flew the plane to Bangkok for repairs... That's always a challenge when reading articles written in the Thenglish, with no technical detail.
