Thai Police Seize 483kg Crystal Meth, Arrest Two Suspects
File photo for reference only In a major breakthrough, Thai police arrested two individuals in Pathum Thani, uncovering 483 kilogrammes of crystal methamphetamine intended for international transit. The arrests are a significant step in Thailand's ongoing struggle against drug trafficking, coordinated under the Royal Thai Army's directive, led by Commander Pana Klaewplodthuk. The successful operation unfolded following intelligence reports that linked a network of traffickers in southern Thailand to a substantial drug shipment. This pivotal raid was executed by the Narcotics Suppression Bureau, with assistance from military intelligence and law enforcement, culminating in the detention of Manoch, aged 33, and Thanaporn, aged 30. The duo revealed plans to transport the illegal cargo to the south in exchange for a sizeable payment of 1 million baht. Thailand, a pivotal point in the notorious Golden Triangle drug route, frequently intercepts transits of illicit substances like methamphetamine, heroin, and ketamine, bound for regions as far as Australia and Hong Kong. The suspects now face severe charges that could lead to heavy penalties, a warning shot across the bow for trafficking networks. Legal proceedings are underway as the accused remain in custody at Thung Song Hong Police Station. -- 2024-12-16
