Two-Year-Old Twists Motorcycle Throttle, Crashes into Glass Door in Buriram

A shocking incident captured on CCTV revealed the dangers of leaving a motorcycle engine running with a child on board. A 30-year-old mother sustained injuries after her two-year-old son accidentally twisted the throttle of her parked motorcycle, causing it to crash through the glass door of the stall owner’s home. The toddler escaped unscathed.

 

The accident occurred at 20:00 on December 4 on Nang Rong-Lam Plai Mat Road, Buriram. Rescuers from the Siam Ruamjai Pu-In Foundation were called to the scene where a motorcycle had crashed into a house, shattering the glass door.

 

At the site, authorities found a Yamaha motorcycle toppled over amid broken glass. The injured mother, was holding her two-year-old son close to her chest. She had multiple cuts on her arms and legs from the shattered glass, while the child, fortunately, emerged unharmed.

 

CCTV footage from the shop revealed that the mother had stopped her motorcycle with the engine still running to buy a drink. While waiting, she answered a phone call, momentarily releasing her grip on the throttle. The toddler, seated at the front of the motorcycle, inadvertently twisted the throttle fully, sending the vehicle hurtling forward into the glass door.

 

Mr. Chutiphong, 55, the stall owner, recounted the incident: “The mother parked in front of my stall and ordered a drink. While I was preparing her order, she answered a phone call, using her right hand, which is typically used to control the throttle. In that brief moment, the child, unaware of the consequences, twisted the throttle. The motorcycle surged forward, crashing through the glass door and into my house.”

 

Though the child was unharmed, the incident left the mother with multiple injuries and property damage. Mr. Chutiphong urged parents and motorcyclists to exercise extreme caution when traveling with young children, noting that such an incidents could easily result in more severe outcomes.

Most places, it's illegal to leave the keys in the vehicle....but everywhere you go, Thais leave their vehicles running...Keeps the car cool....but bikes??

You can't start early enough to ride a bike. Sure, at the beginning it might cause some bruises, dither and excitement.

The mother did not leave the motorcycle unattended. She was still sat aboard when the kid 'hit the throttle'.

The mother did not leave the motorcycle unattended. She was still sat aboard when the kid 'hit the throttle'.

 

True...  this was more a result of inattention....   all in all just a dumb accident, at least the kid wasn't hurt.

 

But really, how hard is it to turn the bike off in that situation ? (20/20 hindsight of course).
