I'll wait to be notified or alerted when I renew my visa 4 years from now.

Does anybody know of a reasonably priced and dependable accounting firm in the Hua Hin/Phetchaburi area for advice on these matters? 

 

I am assuming that likely makes more sense than a law firm?

You have a visa that allows tax exemption on income? That being the case, it seems a  complete waste of time to bring up the Gazette and pretend that you won't comply with the rule until the new law is published because it doesn't affect you!

It doesn't /shouldn't affect me now but these politicians seem to change/reinterpret the rules like they are changing their underwear (especially when they smell free money).  Exempt today but tomorrow, who knows?

Sorry but I don't, maybe others can recommend. There is a pinned list of tax consultancies in the Finance Forum but they are mostly Big 4 type companies and Bangkok based. I don't know how you'd even begin to find a reliable and reputable company other than asking around for referrals. Perhaps you'll let everyone know if you make any progress in this area.

Considering the inconsistency and unreliability of Thai institutions, some people will wait until some authority will directly and individually require them to file and pay tax against for instance visa issuance, or until they see real tax collection and penalties enforcement broadly happening in the field.

 

Some, not without difficulty, will try to comply with the ever changing rules.

 

Some other are barely aware of this tax mess and could not care less.

 

Everyone should act according to what they think is right for them.

Enforcement using visa issuance would be a slam dunk for everyone, 

 

Waiting for evidence of enforcement in the field could be difficult and take a lot of time before anything other than anecdotes became apparent. This forum comprises only a small percentage of the foreigner population, several years is not an unrealistic timeframe.

 

Individual contact strikes me as unlikely, except on an audit exception basis, less than 1% I imagine.

Why don't you post the evidence that supports your (totally wrong) interpretation of a how a dual taxation agreement works first?

 

If you do that, it will eliminate wasted bandwidth, and greatly reduce wear-and-tear on the forum's BS filter.
