Pickup Truck Driver Killed in Crash After Hitting Stationary Truck in Chonburi

An incident occurred early morning on December 10, near the Nong Chak Intersection in Ban Bueng District, Chonburi, when a pickup truck collided with the rear of a stationary 6-wheel truck. The incident claimed the life of the pickup truck driver and left a motorcyclist injured.

 

Pol. Capt. Wirat Trakulthai, investigator at Ban Bueng Police Station, was notified of the incident by the Sila Thammasamakom Rescue Unit. The collision took place on the overpass at the Nong Chak Intersection on the inbound side of Ban Bueng.

 

At the scene, police found a heavily damaged Isuzu pickup truck, license plate from Bangkok, with its front end completely crushed and the roof collapsed. Rescue workers had to use cutting equipment to extract the body of the driver, later identified as Mr. Nipon Srikathat, 33.

 

Nearby, a blue Honda Wave motorcycle, license plate from Chonburi, was found parked beside the wreckage. The rider, identified as Ms. Suhansa Sobanhari, 39, sustained chest and rib injuries and was transported to Ban Bueng Hospital for treatment.

 

The crash was caused by a stationary blue Isuzu 6-wheel truck, license plate from Bangkok, carrying a full load of chickens. The truck’s front-right tyre had burst after running over a plastic pallet left on the road. The truck driver, Mr. Wichit Homyotha, 42, stated that after the tyre burst, he stopped the truck in the right lane of the overpass and attempted to signal approaching vehicles. However, the pickup truck failed to stop in time and collided with the truck’s rear-left corner, leading to the fatal crash.

 

Police documented the scene and collected evidence. Mr. Wichit was taken in for further questioning to determine the full circumstances of the collision and to proceed with legal action.

I would rather ruin tire and rim before stopping on the right lane of an overpass (where there is no space to get off the road).

i would do the same. everyone loves to drive in the right hand lane, even trucks doing 40kmh
