A 4-year-old male buffalo, affectionately named “Mum,” was rescued by local villagers and rescue workers after falling into a 7-metre-deep abandoned well in Na Wang Hin Subdistrict, Phanat Nikhom District.

The incident occurred on December 10, when Mum strayed from his herd and accidentally plunged into the old well. Rescue volunteers and local residents swiftly mobilised to save the buffalo. A crane truck and ropes were used to stabilise and lift Mum from the bottom of the well.

After approximately 45 minutes of effort, the team successfully pulled Mum out of the well. Upon inspection, Mum was found with multiple abrasions on his front and hind legs but no serious injuries. First aid was administered, by villagers and Mum was returned to his enclosure for rest and recovery.

The community praised the coordinated efforts of all involved in ensuring Mum’s safety.
