Pattaya — Used condoms found near a railway station in Pattaya have raised concerns about public health and the city’s image as a family-friendly destination.

On December 11th, concerned residents reported to The Pattaya News that they found several used condoms scattered on the ground near a pile of railway pillows at the Pattaya Railway Station’s multipurpose area.

The residents were concerned that the area could become a breeding ground for infectious diseases and negatively affect the city’s image as a family-friendly tourist destination, as the area is frequented by tourists.

Upon inspection, The Pattaya News reporters found used condoms, wrappers, and tissues scattered across the ground and on the concrete railway pillows. The area is also very unsanitary, with the smell of decay and the presence of flies.

My thoughts is that kids will do this sort of thing and at least they are using protection. I wouldn't worry about the image of Pattaya from what is going on here, in the middle of nowhere, a couple of Km out of town... one would simply need to look in some of the main streets off the Beach Rd! Few tourists arrive by train.

With using condoms, it is not family friendly no... as they are protect to get a family

Looks like someone got their rocks off any cctv? 🤔

Don't give Thai's any ideas!

I wonder if the area is like so many public spaces in Thailand where it's a long hike to the nearest trash receptacle?

If you want to improve the image for tourists, I suggest more trash cans and more public rest rooms.  You'll have less trash and fewer videos of people pooping and peeing in public.

I've seen Thai's throw their trash on the ground with a trash can less then 20 feet away, they care very little for their own environment, that's not even a secret here.

That's certainly not unique to Thailand.  Here's the aftermath of a festival in Glastonbury, where they had 40,000 trash bins.

We had the same problems on the beach in Galveston where I was a Covid refugee for a couple of years.  The difference was that we had trash bins every 50 yards on the beach, even more near the parking, and a crew that drove down the beach every morning to pick up after the slobs.  That's what successful tourist areas do.

I spend a lot of time walking around Bangkok, getting in my target 10,000 steps a day.  When I finish a bottle of water, I often walk with it for 10-20 minutes before I find a can to bin it.  That's not how you appeal to tourists.

I grew up in New England (USA), spent many of my days fishing, hiking, hunting, or camping. Never seen anything like your picture, well at least until I came here, where almost every empty lot is filled with trash.

Obviously , people have been pulling a train there.

You can forget the latter... that went years ago.

Only TAT thinks it's still a "Thing"

This is an astonishing development, condoms were found in Pattaya, the sky is falling, morality is slipping, and it is possible that people might start thinking bad things about our city. We are a wholesome place, we are a family oriented town, and nothing bad happens here, no foul play, no craziness, no mischief, little crime, nothing illegal, so leave us alone and stop leaving your condoms here please!

the city’s image as a family-friendly destination

How can they lose what they don't have in the first place?

"... have raised concerns about public health and the city’s image as a family-friendly destination."

I would rather think that this just reaffirms Pattaya's reputation as safe sex tourism destination

Well there isn't a 7-11 nearby with a trash can, but I suspect there might be one on the railway platform.
