Jealous Husband Shoots 74-Year-Old Man Over Alleged Affair in Khon Kaen

A 54-year-old man was arrested on December 19, for shooting a 74-year-old man after suspecting him of having an affair with his wife. The violent incident took place early in the morning at the victim's home in the village of Nangam, Khon Kaen province.

 

According to police, the suspect, Mr. Pongchit, fired four shots at Mr. Thaksin, the 74-year-old victim, as he was preparing rice in his kitchen. The shooting occurred at close range, with the gunman firing from outside the window, less than two metres away. The bullets hit Mr. Thaksin in his body and arm, causing severe injuries.

 

After the initial attack, Mr. Thaksin attempted to flee to a relative's house approximately 60 metres away. However, Mr. Pongchit returned to his home to retrieve more ammunition and followed the victim. He shot at Mr. Thaksin again, but the second attempt failed to hit him. The victim's relatives intervened, pleading with the attacker to stop, allowing Mr. Thaksin to escape to safety.

 

Following the violent confrontation, Mr. Pongchit eventually returned home and surrendered to the authorities. Police seized a .22 revolver, the weapon used in the attack, and took the suspect into custody. He later confessed to the crime, citing jealousy over his belief that Mr. Thaksin was involved in an affair with his wife.

 

Investigators found bloodstains along the victim's escape route, from the kitchen to the relative's house, confirming the extent of Mr. Thaksin's injuries. He was rushed to Mueang Khon Kaen Hospital for treatment and is currently in serious condition.

 

The police are continuing their investigation, gathering evidence and questioning witnesses to proceed with legal action against the suspect.
