Buying a Dog

I currently reside in Thailand and have made the decision to get a dog, specifically a Pitbull (doesn't have to be purebred). However, I’m unsure about where to begin my search.

well if you are a regular reader of this forum and local media, you would realize quickly that a pitbull is the #1 culprit in attacks, sometimes even the owner.  I as a dog lover and owner form many decades realize the owner usually sets the habits of their dogs but still here, we read that "the dog had never attacked anyone in years" yet they have even Killed people here.  I find it hard to understand why this breed has not yet been outlawed here too.  My opinion but based on many stories over the years here and elsewherer.

Tell us about what you have done so far to research buying a dog in Thailand. Tell us about your decision making process. Tell us what kind of residence and where you are living. Tell us a little about yourself and your history in Thailand before starting such a potentially incendiary thread. At this point, you appear to be a troll.

My brother has had several pit bulls and they have been great dogs.  People are scared when he walks them, but they never harmed anyone. Not every pit bull is bad.

Good choice.I've had a pitbull for 3 years now and it has only bit me 4 times.Only once serious though and the missus said it was my fault.

Not fair on the breed to raise it in Thailand. It will suffer everyday in the Summer from the heat and humidity.

I hope it mauls you and then gets put down.

@StillCurious

It is not my intention to be a troll. Making my first post is somewhat weird, but I'm genuinely curious. I'm aware of the attacks done by Pitbulls but if raised with love at an early age, surrounded by other dogs and people, it could be just like any other dog. Let me introduce myself. This is my first time on the forum.

I've lived in Thailand my entire life, being born in Bangkok.

I live in a 3-bedroom, 3-bathroom, single-story, detached house, paying 18,000 monthly on the beach in Rayong.

Pit bulls really shouldn't get a bad reputation because of how their owners train them.

At Xmas we were at Fish Village, Ban Pong and the majority of dogs for sale were Pitbulls. Not a dog I thought would be popular in Thailand.

You cannot train aggression out of them it's in their DNA, any more than you can train a poodle to be a sheep dog. Pit Bulls top the list for serious attacks and deaths, they are all dangerous animals.

This post from a 'new' poster, who claims to have been born here and lives here yet does not know where to get a dog from - has to be one of the most obvious and stupid troll posts.

At least Bob Smith is entertaining - this is just sad.

Can we just stop the BS. Pit Bulls were bred for fighting and currently still are.

Also on a less serious notes, it is not known how they react to trolls.

No dog is ever vicious or attacks a living soul.......until it does......then the excuse...."oh well he's never tried to kill anyone before" simply doesn't wash.

We keep our dog on a lead whenever there are other people about....even at home he goes on a lead if someone visits.

According to your logic, people who have been through abuse cannot be rehabilitated back into society?

All dogs can be trained, even if it's hard. With the right training and love, they can be like a German Shepherd.
