You need to wait until posters start bashing immigrants before you start defending them . Otherwise you are just arguing on your own with no one else participating

Why did you post that photo for ?

  • Welcome to the UK.   Cue lots of excuses about a difficult childhood, some Liberal hand wringing, followed by a slap on the wrist.    They need the cells for social media posters.

So if/when they move to a subscription based model if you don't comply they can turn your 'phone off?

No. Obviously the store knows what they had in stock and they can just render them into a brick remotely, like they did in the US maybe a year ago or whenever it was. The thieves then proceeded to smash the phones on the ground right outside the store when they realized it. You can also track theses these phones and have them take pictures when they get turned on.   If you steal a smart phone these days you're simply stupid.

If they can't be unlocked in the UK, the 'lock' can potentially be bypassed by the factories in China that receive these stolen goods...  if they can't be unlocked, they are broken down for parts....

These were likely just idiots copying the crime in New York and Paris...  they were quickly and seemingly easily apprehended, probably because they were all rather stupid...    The concern of course is other idiots copy-catting due to all the media attention.

Apple can turn these phones remotely into bricks l, like they did in New York...

Prison won't deter them, its just an inconvenience.

Send them to a military bootcamp... that will soon sort them out.

How could they go to boot camp with a hand and foot missing?

They can still be sent to China, where it is possible they can be 'un-bricked' (apparently - according to some info I read), if they cannot be un-bricked, they then 'taken apart and reassembled as new phones or the spare parts are sold.

They should be able to make them explode or go up in flames.

I look forward to you producing any evidence of me stating this theft was a positive thing.

Without sim card?

When police were on the beat they were more in tune with the community and received quiet tip offs from the public.

The poster to which you replied obviously has zero idea of how much crime beat cops prevented. Perhaps too young to remember those better days and thinks knows it all.

Seems like it.

That's strange. I don't think see how the network can identify it without a phone number and sim card.

I'm not an expert on it, but in NYC they smashed them right outside the store when they discovered that they were bricks. I think the article in this forum even mentioned it that apple rendered them useless. What I don't know is whether the phones in the store had SIM cards in them.

If it was right outside the store they may have used Wi-Fi in the store to block them.

These days the Police have CCTV all over the place and you can report things online .

Police on the beat hearing whispers about a planned bank robbery by the Adams gang  only happens in old Black and White films

Yeah, maybe.

I just checked. As it is usually possible to call emergency numbers without SIM card, mobile networks can identify a phone with its IMEI number,  and communicate with it.

So it should be possible to  block a phone  without SIM card.

Doesn’t surprise me. Considering what certain agencies can do with phones these days. There’s a reason why batteries can’t be removed from phones anymore. Thanks for the info, though! I appreciate it!
