Teen in Phuket Help Save a Man’s Life with CPR on Busy Street

A remarkable act unfolded in Phuket on the afternoon of 6 January, when a teenage student stepped in to help save the life of a man whose heart had stopped beating.

 

At approximately 14.00 the rescue team from Cherng Talay Municipality in Thalang District responded to an emergency call reporting a man who had collapsed near the Cherng Talay Shrine on Srisoonthorn Road. Upon arrival, the team discovered the unconscious man, who had reportedly suffered a seizure before his condition worsened.

 

The rescue team immediately began lifesaving procedures, including CPR, deploying an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), and providing oxygen. However, due to the complexity of the situation, the team called for assistance from bystanders. Among those who responded was Miss Benjawan Kanpai, affectionately known as Rinrada, a school student from Cherng Talay Wittaya School.

 

Still wearing her school uniform, Rinrada quickly sprang into action. Using the AED and performing CPR under the guidance of rescue workers, she administered two life-saving shocks to the man’s heart. Her timely intervention stabilised the man’s condition enough for him to be safely transported to the hospital for further treatment.

 

When interviewed after the incident, Rinrada revealed that she and her classmates had undergone CPR training two years ago as part of a programme organised by the Phuket Provincial Administrative Organisation. She shared that she had diligently reviewed her training and practical skills ever since.

 

“I never imagined I would need to use it in a real-life situation,” said Rinrada, still visibly moved by the experience. “It was nerve-wracking, but saving the man’s life was far more important. I just tried my best. I’m so happy I could help bring him back.”

 

The rescue team praised Rinrada for her courageous and effective response, calling her actions a testament to the importance of equipping young people with essential lifesaving skills.

 

This extraordinary act of heroism has drawn admiration across Phuket, with many celebrating Rinrada as a true local hero who demonstrated that knowledge, preparedness, and compassion can make a life-saving difference.
