Over the years I have had a Thai driving license. When I first got it and through all subsequent renewals, I have had to show my drivers license from my home country. I am considering not renewing my home country license going forward but was wondering if this will impact my ability to renew my Thai driving license. Your advice appreciated. TIA

Once you get a thai driving licence there is no need to show the home licence, I've never shown mine since even when i went 2-2, then 2-5

So if I went back to the UK for holiday, having let my UK licence lapse......I could still hire a car say using my Thai licence???

Not sure why I think you should know the answer, but thought I would ask anyway.

Yes, but they could still ask for an IDP, even though that document merely translates the licence into different languages, and is no use without the issuing country's card.

Which seems silly needing one in Thailand, as it is in Thai & English. But TIT.

Went back to my home country couple of years ago, was pulled over for speeding and gave the policeman my Thai licence..... he went of to the patrol car and came back within minutes and asked for my home country licence !

Might have got away with it if I was driving a rental but alas, I was driving my own car.

I asked AI the question. For Australia, most states will let temporary visitors use their home country license.

Citizens will have to take out an Australian license within a certain time frame, which varies state by state.

I thought a license from the UK lasted  the death of the holder.

Once you turn 70 you have apply for new one to commence from your 70th birthday then reapply every three years after that.

Yes, get an IDP before you go back
