A driver in a Honda HR-V SUV had a fortunate escape after his vehicle plunged into a three-metre deep construction pit on Pattaya Third Road. Despite the car being severely damaged, the driver, a 32-year-old man, emerged unharmed from the incident.

 

The accident occurred on 17th January, just before reaching the North Pattaya intersection in Bang Lamung district, Chonburi.

 

Upon receiving reports of a car falling into an underground electrical wiring construction pit, Pattaya’s Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Rescue Centre dispatched a team to the scene.

When the rescue team arrived, they found the white Honda SUV lodged at the bottom of the pit. The driver explained that he had not noticed the roadworks ahead in time to stop and inadvertently drove into the excavation site.

 

While the vehicle sustained significant damage, the driver was able to exit the car without injuries.

 

Rescue teams utilised a crane to lift the damaged vehicle from the pit, a process that temporarily caused traffic congestion in the area until everything was cleared and the road was opened again.

Ok time to back fill the hole, car and driver can stay there

If you don´t see that, then you are blind and should have your driver license confiscated and run through a paper cutter. Same goes for fiddling with mobile while driving.

It took me several good looks to see the barriers, bollards and warning lights around the hole no wonder the guy missed seeing it.

 

 

Bit suspicious those three cones in the photo ….…. the other three sides of the pit have full sized barriers???? ….and he/she did drive into the pit from that direction…….

There's a barrier in the hole under the car. I'd wager he ploughed through the barriers and the bollards were added after the accident.

Should have put bigger tree branches in there.

Saw it in the video, it is lit up like Blackpool illuminations, super skill to land in there!!

People whizz around quite fast on Sukhumvit these days, as I experienced yesterday myself when I took the motorbike, and decided to avoid the bike dangerous and abysmal road surface of the South bound Railway line bypass. 

I would expect there to be traffic control measures some distance ahead of this ruddy great hole in the road. 

Did not find any reference to a police check for DUI in the above article.  What does the driver's father do?

Sorry, I reread and see this actually was on 3rd Rd. Explains why I didn't end up in there too....
