Do hearing aids really work and can they help someone who also has tinnitus

hearing aids can be very beneficial for someone who is hard of hearing and also has tinnitus. Here's how they can help:

They amplify External Sounds, making it easier for the brain to focus on those sounds rather than the tinnitus. This can reduce the perception of tinnitus by masking the ringing, buzzing, or other phantom sounds.

Many modern hearing aids come with built-in tinnitus masking programs. These generate soothing background noises (like white noise, ocean waves, or gentle tones) that can help mask the tinnitus and make it less noticeable.

By improving hearing, hearing aids reduce the strain and effort required to understand speech and other important sounds. This can lower stress and anxiety, which are known to exacerbate tinnitus symptoms.

Consistent use of hearing aids can help retrain the brain to focus on meaningful sounds rather than tinnitus. This process, often referred to as habituation, can make tinnitus less bothersome over time.

Audiologists can fine-tune hearing aids to address both hearing loss and tinnitus. This customization ensures that the devices cater to individual needs effectively.

Best to work closely with an audiologist to select the hearing aid best for you and one that has tinnitus-specific features.

Regular use of the hearing aids to allow your brain to adapt.

Consider complementary therapies like cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) for tinnitus management if needed.

If your tinnitus and hearing loss significantly impact your daily life, seeking professional evaluation and support is crucial for finding the best solution.

Interesting to get some feed back on various brands that are available in Thailand.

Bought some rather expensive (for me) BICROS in the canal hearing aids.......but not overly impressed.

Had a thirty day trail, but the eventually decided to just use my AirPod pros 2G.

With headphone accommodations and transparency settings they are every bit as good as the hearing aids.....except they lack the CROS or BICROS option, which I hope will come in time.
