A domestic dispute ended in a murder-suicide on Koh Samui after a man killed his wife, locked their 12-year-old son inside the house, and then took his own life.

Police in Bo Phut, Koh Samui, were alerted to the incident in the early hours of 31 January. Officers from Bo Phut Police Station, forensic experts, and rescue workers rushed to the scene at a rented wooden house in Ban Plai Laem Soi 4.

At the front of the house, they discovered the body of Mayura 47, a hotel housekeeper. She was found face-down in a pool of blood with multiple deep slash wounds on her neck and arms. Nearby, under a mango tree, the body of her husband, Ubon, 53, a labourer, was found with a piece of cloth stuffed in his mouth and having hung himself.

The couple's 12-year-old son recounted the horrifying events to police. He explained that his stepfather and mother had been together for five years but were not legally married. Their relationship was troubled, with frequent arguments due to his stepfather's drinking habits.

Ubon had promised to quit drinking, but on the night of the incident, Mayura returned home to find him consuming alcohol again. A heated argument ensued. When the confrontation escalated, the boy tried to intervene and pleaded with his stepfather not to hurt his mother. However, Ubon locked him inside the house before attacking Mayura.

Desperate to escape, the boy broke a window and ran to a neighbour for help. He then called the police, but by the time he returned, both his mother and stepfather were already dead.

Police are continuing their investigation but believe the incident was the result of long-standing domestic tensions fuelled by alcohol abuse. The young boy is now in the care of local authorities while arrangements for his future are being made.

how does a 12 year old recover from that type of trauma, witnessing his mother being murdered?

Very sad for the boy to have to witness the death of his mother I hope the authorities will give him all the help he needs and that he won’t be pushed to the side and forgotten about
