Indeed, the temporary license used to be valid for only one year, nowadays it's two years.

 

It's unfortunate that they don't allow 5-year renewals for people currently not on a non-immigrant visa or extension thereof, as their sensible original intention was that newbie drivers get a temporary license first. For renewals, giving out temporary licenses doesn't really make sense, regardless of visa status. But it is what it is.

One friend comes to mind. 

Married to Thai and has child + home and truck in UT.

Granted he could obtain a non O however youngish and still works full time in Oz, visits when can.

To think this group cannot obtain a 5 yr TDL is crazy.

Even more so if they have a valid DL from home country.

The bloke I refer to is a truck driver.

You may be able to get 5 years on the DTV. We have had reports of both 2 and 5 years on the DTV, I guess it depend on where you get the license renewal - and perhaps the difference is also because the visa is still new.

Indeed, prior to my whacky but potentially successful plan, I would give it a go at the DLT with the DTV to see if they would give me a 5-year licence. The sign in Sri Racha specifically states "Non-Imm Visa" but who knows.

Also make sure you have more than 15 days before your visa expiry date. You can still get the COR (one year validity after issued date)  but DLT won’t accept to renew your licence. Also make sure your health certificate is still valid (one month only after issued date).

I believe COR is valid for 30 days.

Letter from embassy 1 year.

cor are good for 30 days ( most ) not 1 year

Got my renewal today - Phuket only gives two years on the DTV.
