The "Drillers" in the US need 50$ per barrel. The Saudi's have painted themselves into a corner.  They have kicked off costly mega projects. Just to keep going they need prices above 90$. Donalds 45$ goal not likely.

Alternatively, instead of "drill baby drill" the US should go by "swill baby swill". That way at least Johnnie Walker and the beer breweries would profit and the price of "booze" would be lower, longer term.

Drill baby drill was just another slogan for the gullible! 😆

It baffles me why Venezuala has the world's richest oil deposits, and also has a government so corrupt and incompetent it cannot utilize them properly. 5 million Venezualans have left the country.

The CIA has previous form in Chile, perhaps Trump should put them to work in Venezuala.

Cheaper oil, and less economic refugees. Win win. Beats trying to take over the territory of a NATO ally.

One word. Socialism.

It ruins every single country that experiments with it. Some quickly others slowly.

Canada is catching the "drill baby drill" fever too, suddenly. Trudeau is pretending to be afraid of an American takeover, and is suddenly advocating new pipelines, new drilling, even more nuclear power.  Obviously trying to make our next election about Trump instead of about himself.

It is a good idea really. Would you rather buy oil from democratic countries, or the head hackers in the Middle East? LNG from Russia or from Canada?  Oil isn't going away any time in the near future.

Pipelines where?

Pipelines where?

One from Alberta west to British Columbia, called the Northern Gateway. Another across the country east to New Brunswick, called Energy East.

One problem is that Canada's main pipeline producers like Enbridge are reluctant to take part, they got burned before in a maze of over^regulation and delays.

I'm not sure that the people who actually drill for oil or natural gas would agree with you. But as for Trudeau playing politics, first of all he's not running. And secondly, Canadians overwhelmingly don't trust the US anymore.

Of course Trudeau is not running. But he IS trying to save his party from abject defeat in the upcoming election.  He is trying the well-used Liberal trick of fearmongering about the USA. And also trying to pave the way for his crony Mark Carney to win the leadership of the party and then the Prime Ministership.

Of course, it is only logical. But the ideas have been around for years and he refused to consider them. Instead, he went balls in on 'green energy'. Also tried to usurp the provinces in their control of natural resources. Made it near impossible to open a refinery or LNG terminal.

And now suddenly, he is Mr. Energy.  What a load of horse hockey.

"He is trying the well-used Liberal trick of fearmongering about the USA." Are you kidding? Are you actually claiming that Canadians have nothing to fear from Donald Trump?

Underpinning the energy issue, the poll found 91 per cent of respondents think Canada needs to reduce its reliance on the U.S. as a trading partner

It found 79 per cent of Canadians agree the country needs to “ensure it has oil and gas pipelines running from sea to sea across the country.”...

Majority support was seen among Canadians of all ages, income and education levels, according to the online poll of 1,811 Canadians, conducted on Sunday and Monday.

And, no, Canada is not "catching the "drill baby drill" fever too". Its problem isn't the amount of oil or gas it produces. The problem is getting it to world markets unimpeded by the USA. This wasn't a rational fear until the advent of Trump 2.

The current government has been anti-oil since they arrived.  Kind of suspicious timing that they suddenly are so much in favour of it now.

It is no surprise that Canadians want more options regarding exports, that is only common sense. The fearmongering is all the hand-wringing about Trump invading, making Canada the 51st state, all that nonsense.  The common refrain of the left in Canada is "oh no, the Conservatives will bring in American style (insert issue here)".  Hence the Liberals now trying to distract people the same way.

The problem is both. They are not new issues, nothing to do with Trump. The current government has simply been ignoring them.

Plus the lack of refinery capacity to turn crude oil into useful products. And the federal government's hostility towards fossil fuels.

You claimed that the Trudeau was fearmongering. That was a patently ridiculous claim.

As for the issue of lack of drilling

Canadian oil and gas drilling activity to reach 10-year high in 2025: industry group

Canada’s oil and gas well drilling sector is poised to employ more people next year than it has in a decade, but the job growth could be derailed if president-elect Donald Trump makes good on his tariffs threat.

The Canadian Association of Energy Contractors (CAOEC) — which represents drilling and service rig companies across Western Canada, as well as offshore drilling rigs in Atlantic Canada — on Friday said Trump’s recent threat of 25-per-cent tariffs across the board on goods coming into the U.S. from Canada and Mexico should be taken “very seriously.”

CAOEC president and CEO Mark Scholz said while his organization hasn’t formally crunched the numbers, punitive tariffs would be a blow to the sector.

You need to read beyond the headlines, my friend. The article notes the following;

Relations between Canada’s energy sector and the federal government have been rocky in recent years, with the industry accusing the government of imposing a de facto production cap by setting what companies say are unrealistic and unachievable climate targets.

and

The CAOEC also called Friday for the federal government to abandon specific policies the oil and gas sector believes will put Canada’s energy sector at a disadvantage to its U.S. competition under a Trump administration.

Since when haven't energy companies complained about environmental regulations. The fact is that Canada is producing record amounts of oil and gas with record amounts of drilling.

THAT'S your answer? "They always bitch and moan..."?

Trudeau is the guy who promised to phase out the oil industry. Requires them to reach zero emissions and also increased tax on carbon. He lamented that he couldn't shut down our oil sands "tomorrow".    He cares more about his image with his Davos friends than about the prosperity of the Canadian people.

Please. The fact remains that oil and gas drilling is reaching record levels in Canada no matter what Trudeau has said. And the fact is you're dislike of Trudeau is making you tell falsehoods about how Canadians regard the threats posed by Trump. It defies credulity to believe that Canadians aren't afraid of the havoc Trump threatens to wreak on the Canadian economy. And the polls show it. The polls also show that they concern now is not about drilling more but about getting that oil out of Canada without going by way of the United States. Stop letting your political prejudices run riot despite the blatant facts.
