A friend in the UK is coming to Thailand for about a year or so.

He meets all the criteria to get a multiple entry non-Immigrant O visa from Hull, but wants to know how far in advance he can obtain this before entering Thailand. My interpretation has been that he must enter Thailand for the first time within 90 days of it being issued though other people are telling him that this isn't the case and that he could, if he so wished, enter Thailand for the first time a day before the visa expires. That would be a waste of the visa, but he is somewhat confused by the different informtion he is receiving.

Anyone know what the true position is?

Thanks,

Alan

A multi-entry visa is valid for 1 year from the date it is issued by the consulate. I don't think there is any must use by date other than the expiry date of the visa, mine certainly doesn't indicate any.

BUT. There is no point applying too early as you are wasting visa validity. It's a quick process to apply, best to do it a couple of weeks before you fly :o

Yes agreed,

The Thai consulate will issue the visa and you cannot ask them to post date it to a specific date, and yes you could enter thailand anytime and including the last day of the visa and get a 90 day stamp.
