Oil and gas, Canada supplies 50% of America's needs.

If they sell it to the Europeans and Chinese instead, the US has queues forming at every gas station.

Do you understand how long it takes to set up supply lines like that? You also realize that the US could just shut down those trade routes at any time they wanted right? Trump is really showing how absolutely delusional canadians and europeans are.

Oil shipping can be re-routed in a month or so. Canada has ports on its western and eastern seaboard. It's a matter of getting the stuff from within Canada.

Yes, the US could shut those trade routes down. It would also mean America at war with the rest of the world.

Trump is a bully. The only way to deal with bullies is to hit back - hard.

China is doing that already, with retaliatory tariffs. Who do you think will blink first?

Lol, like I said... delusional. Yeah buddy, canada and the eu are just like the avengers taking on evil Donald Thanos. China? Haha, good luck with that.

Just go to a grocery store and check the prices of US imported grocery products.  It's ridiculous.  I checked using an AI interface and it seems that tariffs on food and agricultural products can range upwards of 50% and tariffs on US made clothing can range upward of 60%.  Needless to say I don't purchase US made goods here in Thailand.
So honestly, I consider reciprocal tariffs to simply be leveling the playing field.

US made Clothes.  Try to find a pair of whitey-tighteys that actually will fit your farang sized butt here in Thailand, just as an example.  And I'm not talking about obese Westerner sizes, just a regular, normal sized farang male.  Thailand makes underwear for "no-butt" teenaged boys and men.  If you go into your typical mall here in Thailand you end up having to pay a couple of thousand THB for a freaking pack of underwear.

I am not disagreeing with your opinion that Thailand has high tariffs, but you picked some products where the higher costs are attributable to market characteristics and not tariffs. We all struggle with the issue of undergarments (and shoes too). I have just returned from the USA ,(Florida) and was flabbergasted by the cost of everything.  Doritos used to be $2.99 for a big bag and now they are $5.29 (on sale). The cost is similar  at  Villa.   I walked into a Target and was in shock at the prices on clothing. I needed a basic pair of  sandals -flip flops, that I used to be able to by for under $7.  at Walgreens or at Old Navy. I had to pay $18.99.

I am sort of surprised to see that US  food conglomerates, like Tyson and Orida are stocked at my local Lotus and they are priced competitively with the local Thai monopolies.

However, the US government  has this to say about Thai tariffs;

High tariffs in many sectors continue to hinder access to the Thai market for many U.S. products.  The highest ad valorem tariff rates apply to imports competing with locally produced goods, including automobiles and automotive parts, motorcycles, beef, pork, poultry, tea, tobacco, flowers, beer and spirits, and textiles and apparel.  Wine imports are subject to a 54 percent tariff and six different taxes; taken together, the effective duty and tax burden is nearly 400 percent. Industry has raised concerns about the import tariffs on wine and disparate ad valorem taxes that appear to favor domestic white liquor.

Despite Thailand’s 20-year Alternative Energy Development Plan (2018-2037), which aims to increase biofuels consumption, Thailand restricts the import of biofuels intended for fuel use. Fuel ethanol imports require approval and issuance of permits by Thailand’s Ministry of Energy, but to date the ministry has not issued any approvals or permits. Thailand originally aimed to phase out premium gasoline containing 10 percent ethanol blends (Octane 91 E10) by 2018 and octane 95 E10 E85 between 2023 and 2027, with the intention of making 20 percent ethanol blends (E20) the primary gasohol. However, concerns over sufficient feedstock availability in Thailand have repeatedly delayed the full transition from E10 to E20.

China will overtake the US as the world's biggest economy by 2030. It will be everyone's most important market.

America has opted for old technology, gasoline powered vehicles. Tesla can't compete with Chinese EV's, poorer quality and higher prices.

To give you an idea of how far America has sunk, in the 1950's the US produced half the world's steel. Now, China produces 10 times as much as America.

The steel China produces went into infrastructure. 48,000 km of high speed rail criss-crossing the country. America, just 80 km. Pitiful.

Estimates vary about the number of dams China has built on the Tibetan Plateau. Hundreds at minimum.

Tell me, what major infrastructure has America built domestically in the last 20 years?

It's like watching a race between a T-Model Ford and a Lamborghini.

These are facts. If you don't like them, I have others.

Lol. America literally built china from a backwater sh1thole into what it is. Just because the leadership over the last 60 years has been corrupt to the bone giving all our money away doesn't mean china stands any actual chance. They can't even take taiwan lol. There were less than 10M births last year in china, good luck taking care of the hundreds of millions of excess old people. Maybe Xi will just kill them off like every other commie does.

America did a lot for Japan. It did nothing for China, you are attempting to revise history.

You probably don't understand China is a hybrid economy, a mixture of capitalism and state-controlled enterprises. Hybrids have a history of being successful. Ask Tiger Woods.

Over the last 20 years, Chinese GDP grew on average by 8-10% a year. US GDP grew by 2-3%.

China has invested massively in infrastructure and manufacturing technologies. America is picayune in comparison. It's 2025, and the whole of America has 80 km of high speed rail?

But don't let facts get in the way of your ignorant and somewhat illiterate rants.

Wrong. I am Australian, with Scots, Danish and French ancestry.

You are not alone, plenty of posters on ASEAN get upset when confronted by facts,
