Ordering an Irish coffee and the cream is not floating.

Other than that,  it's mostly ok in Thailand.

Cream?

Is this a new social phenomenon? i was eating lunch, 2 different days, in 2 completely different locations - a upscale coffee shop in my small village and at the Sizzler, in Central Mall, Surat - a very popular restaurant. Each time, I had Thais sitting at a nearby table, with one of them conversing on their mobile, with the speaker on, max. First time, i said nothing (but I intend to talk to the cafe owner). At Sizzler, i took matters into my own hand. and told the Thai to turn down his phone. which he did. I have never encountered this before, in 28 years living here,; my travels take me out of my village to Surat and Phuket towns regularly.

What is the difference between the above and an overly loud conversation at an adjacent table/TV/Music System?

If troublesome you talk I would to the management and either then stay or leave depending on their reaction/actions.

One has been going on longer than the other. Both are rude.

When someone starts hollering on their phone around me, I start hollering on my phone, and louder.

A very childish, aggravating and therefore pointless and possibly counter productive rection to something that annoys you.

As I said above I believe that one should complain to the management and react to their actions, or lack thereof.

Yet very effective. It shuts them down and others in the room always seem to be appreciative.

Of course, I would not do it if it were a birthday party at the table or some-such.

Does that mean you are a bully and do not care about others?

No, why? Does not being a pussy make one a bully?

You seem to have pussy on the brain.

I suggest you stop being a bully in a place where there are others also trying to absorb the ambience, or otherwise

An a-hole in a nice restaurant hollering on speaker phone, you call ambience, I call it rude and let them know it.

I suggest you man up a bit brother.

an another instance of the same krap again, yesterday. (3 times in the past 6 days), at a small outlet of KFC in Makro Surat. 3 young Thais -at the next table to me,  hollering into a mobile. i'm tired, it 3,00 pm & I'm getting my first food of the day. I don't need this (deleted).   a loud ''turn it down please''  worked wonders. lots of giggles followed - which we all know means (''f u farang'' ) . to those of you who disagree, i will continue to react this way. it is important to not show any anger. i smiled and said good bye when i left, to show no hard feelings. for privately owned food outlets & so on, i will ask management to do something about this, otherwise i will vote with my feet. (must learn how to say that in Thai, as I am currently attending Thai language school (at 78 yrs young) 🙂

my latest: driving home , through a major rain storm at 6.00 pm. - drivers (cars & trucks) with no headlights on. there used to be a joke about this - drivers thinking that they need to save their headlights from wearing out...
