I don't know about compensation in Thailand, or Southeast Asia. Certainly not in the financial amount, as European law prescribes for all flights within, from or to Europe.

How much do you think it cost them in fuel to fly all the way back? How much do you think it cost them to reorganise all those people at the airport, give them food and drink, and then how much money to organise another plane to take them all to Singapore a few hours later?

It wasn't an emergency situation, so it is pretty standard to return to your home airport where things can be taken care of more easily as you have maintenance workers, an inventory of parts for your specific aircraft - especially as their home airport was less than two hours away.

But yeah, money. I guess you are one of those who just spouts "money", "greed", or "money number one" randomly in threads without engaging your brain.

As said they didn't want to pay high parking fees at changi so opted to turn round & fly back to bangers and put passengers MORE at risk than landing in singers, I guess it's a "Thai thing"..

They had to pay for fuel to fly all the way back, they had to pay to land back at BKK, had to pay for the logistical nightmare of deplaning everyone, getting their bags off, storing them, looking after everyone for 6-7 hours (feeding and giving them drinks), assuming letting those people go who didn't want to be rescheduled, then bringing in a replacement plane, fuelling it, catering it, staffing it with an entirely new crew, then getting it a slot to fly out of BKK and fly in to SIN, then flying out. All to save a landing fee in Singapore.

Do you see how ridiculous you sound?

You still haven't answered why MONEY was the issue when their decision undoubtedly cost them much much more than landing at Changi would have done. Well why else would you turn round a damaged aircraft just as you were going to land and return

, putting lives at risk,back to your departure airport  and land there, quite safely. then transfer all the passengers onto another plane to fly back to Singapore?? Because it obviously worked out cheaper.. The plane would have been grounded, repairs would have had to be paid for plus the storing of the aircraft and then a complete saty check before it would be released back to Thai Airways.

This flight just returned to the UK with hydraulic issues when it was just 300 miles from the coast of N America. Standard preceedure to return to home base if possible even though it is often more expensive to do so.

Why was everyone criticizing Thai on this thread?  The plane turned around before it even got to Malaysia, not even half way to Singapore.  So much hatred towards Thais here for no reason before even looking at the OP.
