drbrit Posted Monday at 03:23 PM Posted Monday at 03:23 PM Hi, can anybody describe what is required for police background check for a school? I'm not being hired by the school I am being a voluntary sports coach. I have a non O marriage visa so I am allowed to do voluntary work on that visa class
Tod Daniels Posted Tuesday at 03:26 AM Posted Tuesday at 03:26 AM you apply for a background check thru the Special Branch Police office For some reason I can't get the link to jump It's the Police Clearance Service Center in Bangkok https://pcscenter.sbpolice.go.th/en

I was hoping to avoid a trip to BKK police HQ for this. People the the school I will be volunteering at say it can be done in Rayong and Chonburi where I reside.

scottiejohn Posted Tuesday at 01:34 PM Posted Tuesday at 01:34 PM The fact that these questions are being asked on a public forum give me cause for concern! I would have thought that any "teacher" looking for employment in any school and especially a foreign school would have done a lot of home work (no pun intended) and sorted all this out before hand! 1

Or, it's possible that the OP is considering volunteering to fill up some idle time, instead of polishing a barstool all day, every day. And this is a step in that direction. 1

I get asked a couple of times a year if I'd stop by a school and just practice conversational English with the kids. Both in Thailand and in China. Their mechanically adequate English skills could use some real world polishing, from taking to a native speaker. If my schedule changes and frees up some predictable time, my first step would be to get legal. That means a police check. Nothing nefarious about it. We're not all here for the beer and the broads. 1

A school that knows you is totally different to some foreigner just turning up and wanting to coach your kids!

I have another business that occupies most of my day and I am volunteering to coach volleyball at a school because I played volleyball at national league level in the UK. So...screw you lowlife 1 1

I've been supporting the school for years including careers seminars and lectures. As I am a former national league volleyball player in the UK I thought I could help coach their newly set up teams They just want a background check to cover any risk, even though they have known me for years

People accusing me of being a pervert or needing to find an activity other than whoring or bar fly in this form frankly disgusting me 1

Not a teacher looking for a job. I have another job in technology The school asked me to be coach because they have known me many years giving lectures to the school, to sports events and as a national level volleyball player in the UK Amazing how in this area people assume you're a bar fly, pervert, desperate jerk The reality is I am a career professional who is trying to do some good to young people by imparting my experience 1

If your gonna get all touchy with posters who have valid concerns and even one who defended you then I'd also not want you working with children in a sporting atmosphere. 1 1

The police check question is in order for work permit as volunteer. I'm only touchy on those who are accusing me of grifting, being a bored bar fly trying to get a gig... How disgusting I'm a former physicist, engineer, silicon chip expert from silicon valley big tech.... well known in the school and they asked me to be volleyball coach as I was former national league level player 1

I was invited by the school as a former national league volleyball player and frequent speaker at schools in the region on technology and business That was the insult you directly instigated 1

You used to play volleyball at a decent level. I get the feeling that you are a good guy, but you're rubbing people up the wrong way, especially when asking for advice. Hence my concern about you working with children. Regarding your initial question, I have no idea, but if you can help the students, I honestly wish you well. As Impulse said, people do volunteer for altruistic reasons, which I'm all for. 1
