Russia has issued a stark warning to Britain over Ukraine’s use of British-made drones in deep strikes inside Russian territory, threatening that London will face “consequences” for its support of Kyiv. The escalation came alongside a barrage of threats from Russian state television, including a call for a nuclear strike on Britain. Moscow warns Britain the price will rise The Russian embassy accused London of deliberately fuelling the conflict and warned that the deeper Britain becomes involved, the greater the eventual price will be. British-made drones have now been used by Ukraine to strike targets inside Russia, including refineries and warehouses. The development marks a significant expansion of Kyiv’s ability to hit targets far behind the front line using relatively low-cost weapons. Britain is sending thousands more drones The threats come after the Ministry of Defence confirmed in April that Britain would provide Ukraine with more than 150,000 drones this year, including long-range strike systems. The UK has insisted the weapons are intended to help Ukraine defend itself against Russia’s invasion. But Moscow has portrayed the support as evidence that Britain is becoming a direct participant in what the Kremlin describes as a wider proxy war. Kremlin attack dog demands nuclear strike The rhetoric became even more extreme on Russian state television, where presenter Vladimir Solovyov called for Britain to be attacked with a Poseidon nuclear underwater drone. He also demanded strikes on British arms factories, attacks on ships carrying weapons to Ukraine and the closure of the British Embassy in Moscow. The threats were accompanied by calls to expel British journalists from Russia. Threats raise the stakes for London Another Kremlin-aligned commentator, Vladimir Kornilov, warned Britain should be “nervous” over the use of its drones against targets deep inside Russia. The comments do not amount to an announced Russian military response, but they underline the growing pressure on London as British weapons play a more prominent role in Ukraine’s long-range campaign. For Britain, the danger is no longer simply that its weapons are reaching deeper into Russia. Moscow is increasingly framing that support as grounds for retaliation against British interests.
