Trip to Khon Kaen income tax office

Hi I don't know if this has been reported before but I went to see if I could submit a Thai tax return or get a notice from them that I was exempt yesterday in Khon Kaen  , I had what I thought would be a water tight case having all the documents I'd printed out from my HMRC account to show I'd paid the relevant income tax and capital gains tax for the tax years 2023and 2024 , and that the money I'd brought in was earned / acquired in 2023.

Very nice lady we have seen before informed me that they were only accepting Certified copies of UK tax notices to prove what you have paid , this came as a surprise to me as I'd not heard this before .

Has anyone else encountered this and more importantly ever got a certified notice from HMRC?

I said I could bring in my Tablet or Laptop and show them on my account the relevant documents but she didn't seem interested in that just having certified copies.

She also said they had taken small payments off various nationalities who had been to submit a return to simplify the issue and basically write off that money to save the hassle, she also mentioned some countries I think she mentioned Norway in particular were allowing their citizens to claim back payments  they'd made to the Thai tax authorities to avoid double taxation but I got the impression off her they could get their pension /income gross , maybe I misinterpreted what she was telling me but it didn't seem relevant to my case anyway .

She finished off by saying leave the situation to settle down until they sort out what they are actually doing , so I thought yes i'll keep an eye on it too and not bother trying to prove it to them ,then as we were leaving she said you've got six weeks until the return has to be filed !

So where do we go from here ? the clock is still ticking .....

I just got informed by a friend who went to the Jomtien revenue office, he is not 65 year old yet.

He transferred quite some money in 2024, because he's building a house upcountry and for living expenses of course.

He had all his bank statements with him, and they calculated the total and said he had to pay 63000 baht in taxes, to which he said he didn't have that money.

He explained that he was building a house up country and that all the moneys he had sent were already taxed in Belgium. He didn't deliver any proof of that.

They then asked how much he could pay, and he answered 3000 baht, to which they agreed.

The 3000 baht was put in the drawer, and he got his yellow tax receipt that showed he was due ZERO baht in taxes.
