Victory Monument Earns Protected Ancient Site Status in Bangkok

The Royal Gazette published the announcement yesterday, following the Fine Arts Department's declaration under the Ancient Monuments, Antiques, Objects of Art and National Museums Act 1961. Unveiled in 1942, Victory Monument commemorates 59 Thai heroes who fell during the Indochina conflict with France. Designed by renowned architect Mom Luang Pum Malakul, this monument is central to Bangkok's urban tapestry, serving as both a symbol of patriotism and a bustling transport hub. The new protected status, covering an area in Ratchathewi district, bars unauthorised alterations, safeguarding the monument's historical integrity. While many Thais celebrate this move, some urban planners and business owners voice concerns over potential restrictions on future development. Despite differing views, the monument's recognition as a historic site reinforces its role as a testament to Thailand’s resilience and national pride. Yeah, it looks like a grift. I just quickly punched in any answers without looking at the questions to see if it would get me to the end. And it did. I still got 4 out of 10 correct without reading anything. And then it ends up being an ad for an online wine shop with an address in Chiang Mai. Buying wine online you have no idea of how the wine has been stored and if it's been damaged by the excessive heat in Thailand. A word to the wise. -
