Let’s assume that mankind is 1% smarter than chimps. Now imagine an alien race being 1% smarter than us and how much more advanced than us they’d be. Studying us would literally be like visiting a zoo…..

Zoo's are not usually so far away

100 years ago you would have been burnt at the stake for suggesting TV and Radio was possible, never mind space travel.

The way we're going I'd be surprised if we exist in another 100 years.

Radio waves were discovered in the early 1800's.  That's well over 200 years ago.

Science has shown that straight line speed is limited to a value below that of lightspeed, unless you are made of light which only light is.

Theoretical ideas such as folding space time are unlikely to ever result in a method of transportation, the same as wormholes or other ideas.

The issue people fail to grasp when talking about ultra fast travel is how do you scan ahead to identify if there are going to be any object in your path?   At those speeds you can't turn and you can't stop. Stopping requires that you slow down enough to be able to stop, otherwise you get flattened as if you've hit a brick wall at speed, by the sudden stop.
The act of slowing from a theoretical speed just below LS would add potentially hundred or even thousand of years to the journey.

10 light years at lightspeed takes, 10 years.....  but you can't go from zero to LS and back to zero, and even if you could any amount of time required to accelerate and decelerate increases those 10 years significantly.

Science fiction movies and stories are just that, fiction.

Very interesting thanks, let me admit I was trying to make a point that we, the human race are running on borrowed time the way we fight one another instead of getting along, especially  with our capability of mutually assured destruction.

So no need to worry about the Vogons coming to build an intergalactic highway construction project for a hyperspace express route?

If extraterrestrials have the technology to travel between solar systems in a short period of time, they hardly need to study our capabilities, if they wish to either take over or befriend.

I like the idea that they are actually from our future. Perhaps it will be easier to travel time rather than space. Just thinking... don't beat me up.

That’s not the point…

that is exactly the point. Travelling at the speed of light, from our nearest neighbour, would take two and a half years to reach here. If Einstein is correct, and so far it has not been disproved, then any traveller moving here would arrive back many years after his children had died. Seems a waste of time. If we wish to travel in the realms of science fiction and use faster than light travel, then they may be here but so far there is no indication that they have been here except for poor images that cannot be explained. Not knowing what some thing is does not automatically make it an alien vessel.

Who says they’re traveling at the speed of light? It very much seems like they have some sort of gravitational propulsion system that allows them to go anywhere they want in the blink of an eye and we have radar, infrared and video footage of their spacecraft, that clearly show that it’s not a combustion engine because there’s no heat signature and no exhaust stream.

You might wanna watch the Bob Lazar, Jaques Valle and Commander David Fravor episodes of the Joe Rogan podcast. They will give you everything you need to know.

Holey moley.  We left a guy up there?  I hope they left him enough Tang.

TBH, that could have been taken in a zillion studios anywhere in the world.  Not that I believe that it was, but it's hardly convincing proof.

I don't know why they'd have a problem with a credible hi-res photo from Hubble or one of the others.  I've seen a few, but they're not very convincing either.  And they could be taking photos of tracks left by unmanned vehicles.

Hubble was and the Webb telescope is designed for deep space viewing. The moon is probably way too close for them to take a clear picture of it. It’s like you standing so close to a wall that your vision becomes blurry.

Yeah, you can always argue that an image was faked, but we were definitely on the moon. The Chinese just mapped the whole dark side of the moon a few years ago. Don’t you think they would’ve said something, if the Americans hadn’t been there? It’s not exactly like these two countries are best of friends.

Although, personally I don't believe that any alien life has been visiting us, the distances they would need to travel are just too vast even at near light-speed.

You'd think they may have technology that suprasses this ?
