The incident has sparked outrage among Thai netizens, who have criticised the perceived leniency of the charges, arguing for harsher consequences such as deportation and entry bans to prevent future offences.

Have to agree with this.

Deportation and a lifetime ban from Thailand would soon sort that problem out

And a 1 year extra penalty for wearing their caps the wrong way

The problem many European countries have is that the invaded most of these countries. Then used them to help them during the two world wars (go see how many INdians died defending your way of life), then further needed man power to help rebuild their countries.

Yes, we should have left them to deal with the Germans and Japanese on their own and see how they got on. 🙄

One thing that there will always be is racist Brits in Thailand - usually in Pattaya.

Ah, you value your own culture and way of life so you must be a racist trope. 🥱

By that rationale, Thais are all racists.

They probably are though, and their xenophobia and intolerance of pervasive foreign customs and habits is undoubtedly why it remains a great place to live.

Let the deportations begin.

Not condoning their actions but people can only be prosecuted under the current laws, if the laws aren't considered serious enough by thai netizens only they have voting rights during elections to get things changed, the problem is these people want foreigners to be punished more severely than locals committing the same offences, reckless driving happens in every street of every province on a daily basis if they jailed every one who is guilty 75% of the population would be behind bars. Knife offence seems bit lenient but again if that's the thai law it's the thai people that need to change it.

Exactly.  A Thai threatens you with a machete or gun and "The System" here would prefer that it ends in an apology by the Thai and mutual wais and agreements that it all was a misunderstanding.  When the shoe is on the other foot and public demands maximum enforcement to the fullest extent of the law against the foreigner.  Not condoning such behavior by either party.
Hypocritical, but?  There it is.  :glare:

As there will always be racist Thais in Thailand.  Same same, no difference.
