Speeding Car Claims Life of Irishman in Thailand's Khao Lak

Tragedy struck last night in Khao Lak, Thailand, as a 54-year-old Irishman, Neil Christopher More Oferrall, lost his life after being hit by a speeding vehicle. The accident occurred around 9pm on Phetkasem Road near Sangsawan Resort.

 

Quick to respond, police discovered the black Ford Everest involved, stopped near the median strip. The driver, Wisanu Alitomeena from Trang province, was cooperative and remained at the scene. Bloodstains and a single flip-flop were found, stark reminders of the accident's violent nature.

 

 

 

Despite being swiftly taken to Khao Lak Medical Center, Oferrall succumbed to severe neck injuries, pronounced dead at 9.40pm. Authorities have categorised the incident as a traffic accident under case number Chor. 14/2568. An autopsy will follow, registered as case number Chor. 6/2568.

 

The case, seen as a “serious and shocking incident,” has been escalated to the Phang Nga Provincial Police. Investigations continue as officials determine whether charges will be pressed against Alitomeena. This tragic event highlights the dangers lurking on busy roads, affecting even the most tranquil holiday destinations, reported The Thaiger.

Khao Lak is split in 2 sides by the Phetkasem road. There are no foot bridges, so tourist have to cross this 'highway'. Super dangerous, and it begs the question:why no foot bridges?

I know this road well, it’s very wide and straight.  Hard to see how a pedestrian could not see a car from a huge distance away.

 

I can’t help, but wonder if the dead Irishman was intoxicated.

Equally hard to see why the driver didn't not see the pedestrian. May the driver was driving at excessive speed, or intoxicated or both. Or just didn't care.

I think it's more likely he stepped out or even ran out onto the road, perhaps between parked cars.

The poor man was just trying to cross the road. He might have made it if the car wasn’t speeding and driving reckless. The car hit him so I have no sympathy for the driver and hope he gets jail and a gets a big fine and loses his driving privileges, but TIT , probably a slap on the wrist and a Wai to the family.
