Chinese-Owned Restaurant in Rayong Raided for Employing Illegal Workers

Authorities in Rayong have raided a Chinese-owned restaurant in the Nikom Phatthana district after receiving intelligence that it was employing a large number of illegal foreign workers, including Chinese and Myanmar nationals, to serve Chinese clientele.

 

The operation was conducted by the Immigration Police Division 3, under the direction of Police General Phanumart Boonyalaksakul, Commissioner of the Immigration Bureau, and Police Major General Piti Nithinantseth, Deputy Commissioner of the Immigration Bureau. They acted on a tip-off from a confidential informant regarding the illegal employment at the restaurant, which is named Huixiang Restaurant, located in the industrial zone of Nikom Phatthana.

 

Upon arrival, officers discovered a Chinese man, Mr. Guoqing, aged 30, and a group of Myanmar nationals working inside the restaurant, serving Chinese customers. Mr. Guoqing was responsible for taking orders, assisting customers, and collecting payments. In the kitchen, the officers found a Chinese chef, Mr. Wang, aged 48, preparing meals for the customers. Both Mr. Guoqing and Mr. Wang had entered Thailand on tourist visas and were unable to provide work permits.

 

Further investigation revealed that the restaurant’s owner, Ms. Jing, a Chinese national, had employed Mr. Guoqing, Mr. Wang, and the Myanmar workers illegally. Ms. Jing, however, was found to have returned to China at the time of the raid. The officers also discovered that Chinese customers were paying for their meals using Chinese banking systems, including WeChat Pay and Alipay, as well as a Thai bank account in Ms. Jing’s name.

 

As a result, Mr. Guoqing and Mr. Wang were arrested, along with four Myanmar workers, on charges of “working without permission or working beyond their permitted rights” in Thailand. The group was taken to Nikom Phatthana Police Station for legal processing.

 

Police Major General Chairit Anurith, Commander of Immigration Police Division 3, stated that while the charge carries a fine, those arrested will have their permission to stay in Thailand revoked and will be blacklisted, barring them from re-entering the country. They will also be deported to their home countries.

 

The Immigration Bureau continues to enforce strict measures to monitor, investigate, and prevent illegal activities, including the employment of foreign workers without proper authorisation.
