SUVs, choices and reviews please. Haval H6 thoughts?

Hi all, I currently drive a Camry, very happy with it, but the time for change is coming! Having read the comments regarding buying an SUV, I am convinced this is the way for me to go. I like Toyota, Honda, and Mazda, but I do not want to shell out for a new vehicle (not cheap Charlie, but prudent I hope). Many of the above vehicles look promising, however, even as an ageing driver, I like power when I want to overtake. Therefore, anything less than an 1.8 normally aspirated, or 1.5 with a Turbo would not really suit my requirements. I am open to considering a Chinese vehicle, the one I keep coming back to is the Haval H6, so, does anyone have first-hand experience of owning and driving one? Dealer availability, reliability and anything that might be of interest to anyone who might be thinking along similar lines. Many thanks. Planemad

Thanks KhunLA, I appreciate your reaponse. Yes I do want a bit of performance, but I also want something a little further from the ground, makes getting out a little easier, I'm over 70, but only in body! I do like the look of the MG's and was tempted, but I'm afraid their reputation has rather put me off. Full electric is not on the radar as we sometimes like to make quite long trips. Whilst I agree charging stations are growing in number, quite long waits to recharge, to me, is a negative. Thanks for your input.

I've had my Honda CRV 2.4 Ltr (petrol) 4WD for 10 1/2 years now - 118,000 km even. Honda released an updated version a couple of years later called an "AWD", which was slightly bigger body. The only other consideration for an SUV back in 2014 was the Nissan Xtrail, but the Honda dealership was more professional.

Mazda SUV CX-5 S is a great car to drive. Mine has 2.5 L petrol. Hard to find in Thailand now. Biggest engine they have now seems to be 2.2. They are pricey though, as they are assembled in Malaysia and not Thailand. Not sure if duty or what the reason but you can pay 1.6 - 1.7 million baht for top of the line. You could import one from Japan - shipping is remarkably cheap - but Thai duty is not. Japan-made usually better IMO (but with Japanese language gauges).

You may also like the MG SUVs made in China - I think they have EV options too. Similar look to the Mazda CX-5 but cheaper.

End of the day, how the car feels when driving is at the top of my list.  That's why I bought the CX-5. A bit older now. But read the reviews for newest models before you take the leap on any car and definitely test drive first.

I own a Haval H6 PHEV. Have put on over 40k km including multiple trips to Malaysia, round trip of over 5,000 km.

Would I buy it again? Absolutely! Glad to answer any specific queries you might have.

Many thanks for all your replies. Gweiloman, good to get a reply from someone who owns an H6, I might well be in touch if I have any specific questions to ask.
