On Wednesday Fox Business correspondent Charlie Gasparino said that the Trump administration had put itself in a "difficult, self-inflicted spot" because they "decided to shoot first at the world, and then focus on China while now asking the same trading partners we p---ed off to help us triangulate a common foe."

"And it was so avoidable. The damage China has done to free trade is enormous; it's a command control economy, a militaristic super power that obviously uses our public markets and openness to further its gains. You can't say that about Canada and the EU or Israel ....... a little common sense shows that we have backed ourselves into a negotiating corner."

'Weakness' in Trump's economic strategy 'may soon be exposed': Fox Business correspondent

Hubris, arrogance,  ignorance and narcissism, a fatal combination when a bull is in a china shop.

IMO the Chinese economy is a hybrid. True, there are elements of command and control. However, China having 823 billionaires - second only to the USA, plus more middle class than the entire US population - is an indicator of an appreciable amount of capitalism in the mix.

Right, if it were truly just a command and control economy, how could have gotten this far? On the other hand, perhaps the West should be grateful that over 50% of it is government run thank to Xi. Think how much more powerful it would be if he hadn't repeatedly repressed private enterprise in China and forced it to support government run businesses.

Taiwanese manufacturing giant Foxconn announced plans to invest $10bn (£7.6bn) in a new factory in the US.

The plant, to be located in Wisconsin, is expected to make LCD panels and employ 3,000 people initially.

President Donald Trump, claimed credit for Foxconn's "incredible investment" which he said would not have happened if he had not been elected.

https://www.bbc.com/news/business-40732035

Foxconn mostly abandons $10 billion Wisconsin project touted by Trump

Taiwan electronics manufacturer Foxconn is drastically scaling back a planned $10 billion factory in Wisconsin.
Under a deal, Foxconn will reduce its planned investment to $672 million from $10 billion, and slash the number of new jobs to 1,454 from 13,000.

And exactly the same is happening this time. Companies make big promises, because they know that will land them big favors from Trump for the time being, and probably will exempt them from the tariffs.

They also know that Trump will be in office for a maximum of 4 years, put probably will be expelled much earlier, so they will then renege on their promises but in the meantime have cashed in on Trump's favors
