You apparently dont know or dont understand what Kary Mullis stated and what the PCR testing during covid was used for. It was intended to show who has been exposed to the covid virus and never was a diagnosis of an illness. It was used as an indicator of exposure with a means to separate the exposed from non-exposed individuals to help contain the spread. People started to bastardize the intent especially the conspiracy sector and create misinformation they used to spread their message of conspiracy.

There has also been quite a lot of deflection, nit-picking and sealioning rather than actually addressing the question. A 20-page argument about whether a particular conspiracy theory is true is still largely off-topic if the question is why so many people are attracted to conspiratorial thinking in the first place.

 

That said, the thread has unintentionally demonstrated one of the characteristics of conspiracy thinking rather well. It has certainly provided plenty of examples—and perhaps given us some idea of how widespread it is on ASEAN NOW—but it still hasn't really answered the question of why.

 

The second part of the OP—what can we actually do about it?—has received even less attention.

My own observation is that debating a committed conspiracy theorist is often an exercise in pigeon chess. You can present evidence, provide a credible source, quote an expert or point out a logical contradiction, only to be told:

“That's exactly what they want you to think.”
“The expert is compromised.”
“The evidence has been manipulated.”
“The fact that you can't prove me wrong proves I'm right.”

 

At that point, the argument has become self-sealing: counter-evidence isn't allowed to challenge the theory because it is simply absorbed into the theory as further evidence of the conspiracy, and that is rather the problem. You cannot have a meaningful debate when one side has constructed an argument that is incapable of being wrong.

 

The interesting question therefore isn't “Which conspiracy theory should we argue about next?”  - It is “Why does this way of thinking appeal to so many people in the first place—and how do we encourage people to recognise and challenge it?”

That, at least, would bring us back to the original topic.

To understand conspiracy theories, you need to understand the different conspiracies and why they originate in the first place. Competing politicians, corporations, governments, intelligence agencies, or simply people who feel they are not being heard and have experienced people in power lying to them and betraying their trust.

And that distrust is not invented from nothing. Governments, intelligence services, corporations, institutions, and media in many countries have all been caught hiding, manipulating, spying, misleading, or lying before.

Then add a complicated and chaotic world where people need something that explains what is happening, and conspiracy theories suddenly become much easier to understand.

The important distinction is still whether people remain willing to question their own explanation too.

One strange thing about the official vid. A few frames before the plane crashed in, one of the wings go missing. Leads one to think that some frame doctoring was going on.

A conspiracy theory if ever there was one. I've researched for years on this and I can't find any evidence that he had a pilot's license.

A belief system does not need to make sense. There are pyramid shapes observed on Mars, just as we can see faces on the Moon or Mars under the right conditions. Add some clever photo editing or AI, and suddenly you have proof.

No one has been to the moon in my lifetime. The Apollo programme or the most recent one where they went round the moon and got back OK. That last mission has dropped completely off the Radar.
