This is the kind of language used to humiliate an opponent. I think China's goal is to humiliate Trump.

Wow, that won't take much effort.  Trump is accomplishing 99% of that goal on his own.

I wonder what will happen when he finally realizes he's the laughingstock of the planet.

So the Chinese are lying. What a complete surprise.

You better read this and get a better understanding about the position of the USA: Trump is learning America isn’t as powerful as he thought

China doesn't need to do anything. China doesn't need to talk to someone digging its own hole deeper. Its just waiting for the hole diggers to come to their senses or get tired of it. In the meantime China will trade elsewhere. Old Asian proverb, when one smells a stink walk away.

Except they do of course, not only is China forced to talk to the US, since they want to retain their 400 billion USD market share in the American market, they are doing so. In fact they recently asked the US to put together a trade delegation that is authorised to negotiate a deal.

As the link above illustrates, officials have confirmed to NBC that the US and China are in talks.

Don't believe everything the Chinese tell you publicly, they're not the most honest of people.

They just can't get it through their skulls this is how negotiation works. Trump gets a satisfactory result, he lets the other side have a satisfactory result too. Everyone happy enough. He has achieved more in adressing unfair trade practises that the last 80 years of other Presidents. In THREE MONTHS. Quite fantastic. Just imagine Biden achieving that!

Interesting twist you try to put out here. What satisfactory results has he given to any country that he slammed with increased tariffs? Can you tell us of the great achievements his tariff blunder has produced? Not opinons but actual facts. Dont forget to include the damage he's done to the stock markets and disruptions to world economies and global supply chains.

Cherry picking much?

"Still, Trump and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent gave conflicting accounts of the state of negotiations Wednesday, with Bessent saying “both sides are waiting to speak to the other,” without providing further detail. The secretary reiterated remarks he made the previous day, predicting near-term de-escalation."

So who knows.

They may be in talks to negotiate. But they are not negotiating, I believe that the Chinese are in this to humiliate Trump and are prepared to go quite far to do so. They keep on stating that so long as Trump's unilaterally imposed tariffs remain in force, no negotiations. The thing is, last time Trump was in office, he caught the Chinese unprepared. Since then they've been preparing for just such an eventuality.  Xi and China may not be beloved worldwide, but it's clear that Trump is now the more odious party in the eyes of the world.

It is of course China that have been humiliated. They've been hit with the biggest stick and whilst the others got a 90 day lollilop China got another beating. Yet China has to crawl to the negotiation table and smile and play nice to try and retain any of the big slice of cake the US have been giving them previously. Trump exposted China's hubris and showed the world that actually China's success depends on the US. The Chinese know their economy is in deep trouble, and if you read the comments on Chinese social media many are deeply concerned about the effect the tariffs will have on China's economy.

It must be a major hit to the inflated Chinese ego to realise that they can easily be hit with a big stick, their cake can be easily taken away, and then they have to go sit at the table and smile to ask for some of the cake back.

No wonder the Chinese don't want to admit they're talking to the guy who slapped them about sideways. However, it's clear what is happening, isn't it, Trump sent out his special envoys to talk to Chinese parties, without the actual formal negotiations about the tariffs being in place. That's why the Chinese propaganda machine told its spokesman to say there are no negotiations. Strictly speaking of course that's the case, there are no formal or official negotiations. Yet. There are informal talks about who should negotiate with whom where about what. The Chinese are on record as having demanded that the US put in place negotiators authorised to negotiate a deal, and US officials are on record for saying to NBC they are in talks with Chinese officials.

So it is clear as daylight that China and the US are talking, how could it be otherwise. Anyone who claims that's not the case and takes some Chinese spokesman's word at face value has a bit to learn about how the world actually works.

Trump administration considers slashing tariffs on Chinese imports to de-escalate trade tensions.

Tariffs could come down to between roughly 50% and 65%; a tiered approach considered: 35% levies for items the U.S. deems not a national-security threat and at least 100% levies for strategic items.

China open to trade talks but warns against negotiating under continued threats from the U.S.

Is Trump panicking much?

Other sources deny these considered steps.

However, there might be intelligent advisers around.

Xi probably will be not the one to curve in I suppose.

You really are delusional in your claims. China has stated bluntly that no negation are being held and have also taken action to defend their position. That includes warning their trade partners that if they negotiate with trump over tariffs they will be acted on by China. I guess you dont stay up with current events if doesn't come from Trump?

Define "talks" and then explain away why these anonymous unnamed "officials" didn't clearly say "trade negotiations."

Oh, I see.  There were no "officials familiar with the situation" quoted.  Just Trump bloviating and Bessent trying to cover for his bosses "misstatements."

Wait!  I found it!

A senior administration official told NBC News on Wednesday that the U.S. is speaking with China on tariffs but at a low level that has not involved Cabinet officials.

Essentially what we have is a couple of low-level assistants to third-rank undersecretaries from the State Department meeting with their low-level Chinese counterparts to discuss the size/shape of the table, and the color and air temperature/humidity of the room where the next level of low-level assistants will discuss how many low-level assistants to undersecretaries will host their counterparts at the KTV and the order of K-pop songs to be played to celebrate successfully choosing the font for the placecards.

After all, when asked to confirm who was meeting who (not Hu), Trump replied "It doesn't matter who 'they' is."

[China is] saying it’s ‘fake news’ that trade talks are happening,” a reporter prompted Trump at the White House.

“Well, they had a meeting this morning,” the president replied.

“It doesn’t matter who ‘they’ is. We may reveal it later, but they had meetings this morning. And we’ve been meeting with China.”

Yet.

Maybe next month.

Or not.

Almost got it.

China on Monday warned other countries against making trade deals with the United States to China’s detriment.

Negotiate trade deals to their heart's content, they are sovereign nations.  But if they appease Trump by signing deals to reduce tariffs which require countries to exclude trade with China or increase their own tariffs on China, then of course, there will be a response.
