Georgealbert Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago Picture courtesy of Khoasod. The Department of Tourism has announced a major nationwide initiative to improve tourist infrastructure with a budget exceeding 26 million baht. The funding will be used to renovate public toilet facilities at 63 key tourist attractions across the country in a bid to enhance visitor experience and support Thailand’s goal of becoming a global tourism hub. Mr. Jatuporn Pakdeewanich, Director-General of the Department of Tourism, revealed that the initiative is in line with the government’s urgent policy to elevate Thailand’s tourism standards and reinforce its image as a world-class travel destination. The renovations are part of a broader programme to standardise and upgrade public toilet facilities, ensuring they meet tourism-specific criteria of cleanliness, accessibility, and safety. The initiative is a collaborative effort involving four main government agencies: • Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation (27 sites) • National Office of Buddhism (18 sites) • Department of Local Administration (17 sites) • Fine Arts Department (1 site) The Department of Tourism will also coordinate with provincial tourism and sports offices to monitor progress and ensure that improvements are completed in time for the upcoming high tourist season at the end of the year. Mr. Jatuporn emphasised that accessible and hygienic public restrooms are a key component in creating a positive experience for all visitors, including international tourists, families, the elderly, and persons with disabilities. He also noted the project aligns with the government’s “Ignite Thailand” vision, which aims to boost national unity and competitiveness in global tourism. “This investment is about more than just restrooms, it’s about elevating our tourism standards and leaving a lasting impression on every visitor,” he said. The upgraded facilities are expected to reflect Thailand’s commitment to hospitality, cleanliness, and inclusivity, key attributes for sustaining growth in the nation’s vital tourism sector. impulse Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago I salute the initiative. And I hope it's more than new buckets and ladles for the squatty potties. 1

I'm always amazed how superb toilet facilities are in Thailand's malls. If you go to Malaysia you'll quickly realise this is not the case all over SE Asia. The Thais really are a cleaner people than those in the West, one has to give it to them. Superb toilet facilities. 1
Yagoda Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago Pro Tip: No matter what anyone says about Thai road trip Hong Nams, a Sian Pure Ya Dom inhaler inserted in each nostril will be required to ease the olfactory impact.

I agree in the malls. I'm very favorably impressed. The roadside (Including gas stations) rest stops and facilities in the Parks, not so much.

I chalked that up to handicap access. Even blind people can find the rest room. 1 1

Purdey Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago Seems like foreigners peeing on the street has given Thailand the hint.
GammaGlobulin Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago I say, let the Tourists be creative and fend for themselves. Or, why not just do it in the road....

Your video isn't coming up here, but if it's a reference to The Beatles' "Why Don't We Do It in The Road", that's not what the song's about. McCartney wrote the song after seeing two monkeys copulating in the street while on retreat in Rishikesh, India, with the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi.

Well, at the very least, I got the India part correct, I think.
dinsdale Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago I have a feeling these are going to be very expensive toilets.
Yagoda Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago one thing that's great about the US is that the toilets in the big chain truck stops are usually prime for a relaxed and fragrant dump.
