People all throughout time have allowed others to influence their opinion. This is no exception. Sad day when an outsider can make a countries vote go a certain way.

Weak individuals just like Canadians.

The Trump Slump is now a real thing!

"Australia’s center-left Labor Party retains power as conservative leader loses seat, networks report"

https://edition.cnn.com/2025/05/03/australia/australia-election-results-albanese-dutton-intl-hnk

"Australia’s Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has secured a second term in office in what appears to be an election wipeout for the Liberal Party leader, as voters chose stability over change against a backdrop of global turmoil inflicted by a returning US President Donald Trump.

Albanese’s Labor Party was on course to secure a majority, and while votes were still being counted, early results showed a sharp swing towards his center-left party, according to projections from national broadcaster the ABC and CNN affiliate Sky News."

Its fairly extraordinary for Leaders of the Opposition to lose their seats. First Canada, now Australia.

To be fair, it sounds like Dutton was a reluctant representative for his seat anyhow.

There could not be a more emphatic rejection of right-wing  politics than the result of the Australian election. It's a slaughter, Labor's seats are more than double that of the LNP. Dutton has lost his seat of Dickson.

This will go down in Australian political history as the election where an American President lost an election for his supporters in another country. The Trump factor of tariffs killed the conservatives, and rightly so.

Very easy to call other people weak from behind the safety of a keyboard.

Dutton's policies had nothing to do with Trump policies plus he was the worst candidate since the 90s.

Why you clowns are so obsessed with Trump I don't know.

Nonsense & poppycock. The Liberal Party - at least since John Howard - is about 6 inches to the right of the Labour Party (which is about 6 inches to the left of centre). And both parties are WAY to the left of Usofan Democrats ...

Dutton lost for personality reasons and because he was - despite LOOKING strong - too weak to produce sensible rightwing policies that would have differentiated the Liberals from Labour. The one exception being his weak & under-detailed proposal for nuclear-generated electricity. He didn't have the strength to push for strong new economic & financial policies and his pro-Defence ideas were weak and badly sold. And he had next-to-no support from his team - no ideas, no decent articulation of policy. His economic/finance spokesman was weak & all-but-invisible.

That's your opinion.

You are correct in saying Dutton lost for the reasons you outlined. IMO when he paraded his son as an example of the housing crisis, his hypocrisy in making $30 million from the property market was obvious to anyone with a couple of brain cells.

Australians believe in fairness, it's part of the national psyche. Trump's actions in hitting Australia with tariffs, when the US has a positive trade balance, flouted that principle.

Labor was floundering in the polls until the tariffs arrived. No doubt it outraged many voters, and Dutton was trying to paint himself as Trump-lite.

Perhaps you don't know how to connect the dots.

Just out of interest, what strong new economic and financial policies do you advocate?

Trump has become an international electoral object lesson. Which can be summarized as

"There but for the grace of God go we."

Add the Brexit vote as another case study; Maggie was right. Governments must never run referendums that they think they might lose.

Nothing to do with Trump. Give up your Trump obsession. Dutton was an awful choice as leader.

You sound clueless and deranged. Elections are won on local issues. About 80% of your posts or more are about Trump. You need help.

Then join us Americans trying to save our country from a wanna be dictator that obviously the Canadians and Australians want no part of …..you and I both know trumps malignant ideas and policies are influencing these elections.

So you are anti democracy now. Trump won fair and square. Deal with it. The losers in Canada and Aust had bad leaders with no good policies. Your obsession with Trump is weird and fogging up your thoughts.
