After a lifetime slaving over hot stoves in commercial kitchens, it makes me cringe when my wife breaks all the "rules" about food safety and never suffers any effects. Won't put leftover food in the fridge until it is cold, then eats it days later. We had grilled fish 5 days ago, she ate the leftovers today...aroi! No way was I touching it. When reheating leftover rice she won't just heat enough for her meal, she will do the lot and put the excess back on the bench to be reheated again days later. Apart from food safety issues food  loses flavour when reheated again...but as it is usually smothered in chilli I guess that don't matter!

There's a special som tam place my daughter loves. It's a few km down the road. I asked why that was so good and the local ones aren't. She went on to explain how the local ones are unsanitary. They use same knives, cutting board, etc.  on raw meat and on veggies without washing. This isn't Isaan either.

David Whipple, of Heber City, Utah, purchased a hamburger at McDonalds on July 7, 1999 and it still remains intact. He calls it "the world's oldest hamburger."

Thanks for your response.  I always appreciate reading your posts on every subject.

I never walk barefoot and I have no animals and I'm not around  any animals.

I guess I will skip this years worm pills.  I used to take one type for 3-4 days and another type for 3-4 days  as apparently there is one type of worm that isn't killed by the first pills.

Thanks again for your input.

For what its worth -- I myself do not take worm pills  & haven't for the 30 years I've lived in my current residence and no sign of worms. (I get a complete blood count anually, no anemia, no eosinophilia).

Many many years ago (1980's)  when working  in refugee csmps on the Cambodian border I did take it. Different circumstance, much higher risk.

I don't think worms are more common here than anywhere else, but that said my 2 year old got pinworms. Suddenly her poo in the diaper had 100 of these small string like worms.

We all took worm medicine as they can spread through the bedding.

She probably ate a dead bug or something else off the floor. Kids!!!

My Mrs regularly leaves food dishes out on the kitchen table, including rice which was cooked the night before. This morning I found a tub of left over KFC.

She, and other family incl. 4 year old, eat it no problem, with no side effects.

When I was at cookery college it was instilled in us not to leave anything at room temperature for more than a couple of hours. I also read that KFC (in UK) dispose of any food not sold within a certain length of time.

How does it work over here?

My theory ......   eating "food" that has been left out to manifest   slowly over time ... it can take years .. eats the portion of the brain that effects all common sense and logic to the point where one is only able to acertain function to the present and not able to foresee anything in the future

But she, and her family, have been doing it for years with no ill effects.

I will re-heat food, including rice in the microwave, but make sure that it is too hot to eat straight away.

Must be an Asian custom my wife is Philipina been married 25 years next week and she cooks a large rice cooker full of rice for herself and leaves the uneaten rice   on the kitchen counter until the next night. I used to put in the fridge  but I don't worry anymore but I sure don't eat it.

My Philipina missus the other day soup/stew with small mackeral fish cut into pieces and cooked in a pot on the stove. She ate some that night and left the rest on the stove in the pot all night. Before she went to work next morning she told me not to put it in the fridge or else and thats where it stayed for the next 4 days until she had finished it. No way I would eat it and no aircon in house.
