In a harrowing case of child exploitation, a 13-year-old girl from the southern province of Prachuap Khiri Khan was rescued after her biological mother and aunt forced her into prostitution with a 50-year-old man. Her plight came to light when she managed to escape to her father's home in Phuket on April 26 and revealed the abuse.

She confided in her father about the repeated abuse orchestrated by her mother and aunt, prompting him to reach out to Hua Hin Police Station and the Pavena Foundation for Children and Women to seek justice for his daughter.

According to her account, the abuse began when she was 11, with her mother and aunt arranging meetings with the man on at least three occasions. The first encounter took place in a public park for which they received 1,500 baht. On another occasion, she was taken to a love hotel in Hua Hin and abused for 2,000 baht. The third incident involved her aunt bringing her to the same hotel, receiving 5,000 baht from the man. The victim bravely resisted, enabling her to escape, which angered the abuser, leading him to reject further arrangements due to her resistance.

The girl disclosed that money received was primarily used by her mother and aunt to purchase methamphetamine, and she was also coerced into collecting drugs for her mother. After expressing her intention to report her mother's drug abuse to authorities, she was permitted to move in with her father. However, her eight-year-old sister remained in the abusive environment, motivating her to share her ordeal and seek rescue for her sibling.

On May 19, Hua Hin Police Station officers arrested the mother, who admitted her actions. She faces severe charges under:

  • Sections 6 and 52 of the Act on Prevention and Suppression of Human Trafficking, with penalties ranging from four to twelve years imprisonment and fines between 400,000 and 1,200,000 baht.
  • Sections 282 and 281(1) of the Criminal Law relating to exploitation of minors, carrying penalties of three to five years imprisonment and fines from 60,000 to 300,000 baht.

Efforts to locate the aunt, who remains at large, are ongoing. Meanwhile, the Pavena Foundation, in collaboration with the Social Development and Human Security Office in Prachuap Khiri Khan, has initiated proceedings to rescue and ensure the safety of the victim's younger sister, offering her the necessary care and protection from further harm.
