1) You're on a tourist visa, over 60 and just received your first months pension from your home country and have thai bank statement showing it - if you multiply the amount by 12 - it exceeds the 800,000 baht requirement ..

Is this enough to apply for a retirement visa ? (or do they insist on 12 payments going into the bank ? )

2) - a 60 year old has 12 months bank statements showing total pension received of 500,000 baht - with a further 300,000 baht cash in the bank - is this acceptable to renew a retirement extension ?

TIA ...

You are vaguely referring to "combination method". Some offices permit.

Would help if you provide more detail.

I asked for pp country as some embassies provide income letter.

Can you place 800k baht into your Thai bank account?

EDIT: From another thread seems that you are UK.

The only option for you is to apply for Non Of retirement at local immigration office with 800k in Thai bank account on day of application.

That will give you a 90 day stamp.

In last 30 days with the 800k having been in bank for 2 months you can apply for 12 month extension.

To apply for the Non O you would need 15 day minimum validity on your stamp.

Are you on tourist visa or visa exempt entry?

You would providd TM86 or TM87 respectively

Not for me - a Brit pal living in pattaya - doesn't have 800k - can the "combined" method be used ?

Already has a retirement extension - don't via an agent who sort the finances ...

Having used agent to cover financial requirements he cannot switch to DIY.

Would require starting over. In any event he doesn't have the 800k.

Agent for ~13-15k or go home.

Whoops... Just noticed that he is on tourist visa.

That means agent obtains a Non O + 12 month extension.

That's going to be ~30k

As I understand it, there is another option, without having to restart.

  • Year 1 (let's say, 2025): Use an agent.
  • Year 2 (2026): at least 2 months prior to the EOS application have 800k in the bank; get the EOS using an agent (because you didn't comply with the financial requirement for an entire year).
  • Year 3 (2027): switch to DIY, since you can demonstrate financial compliance for the previous 12 (actually 14) months.

Think you are outlining your plan for your particular situation.

That will work however messy IMO.

Take example of someone located in Bangkok using Pattaya agent.

Most likely stamps issued at Jomtien.

Would be best to do quick border bounce and start over.

In any event doesn't concern OP,s friend who seems not to have the finances even for an agent.

So not currently on a tourist visa at this time but considering it to try and go it alone rather than use the agent again? Is that the motivation behind the question?

Understood.

Btw, one thing that I have not realized until now is that timing is important. My EOS anniversary is mid-June. That means that I must be physically present in Thailand at least some of the time during the May-June timeframe.

This really sucks, because late spring and early summer is the time that I like to travel overseas - and now I won't be able to do that. At least not without juggling the EOS renewal appointments, etc.

My current thinking is to exit without a Re-Entry Permit and time the next Non O so that my EOS starts in January. That is the timeframe that I'd rather be in Thailand than anywhere else (mostly because of the weather), so it won't disrupt my travel plans.

Yet we are continually informed on here by visa users that the process is all legal, if it were they would be able to switch to DIY.

Lost track of where you arer at with agent.

If current extension ends mid June you can apply for extension up to 30 days prior at most offices.

If agent is obtaining the extension that can be obtained much earlier.
