Tourism Thailand Hosts "Sawasdee Ni Hao" to Boost Chinese Tourism

Thailand is set to host "Sawasdee Ni Hao," a grand event celebrating 50 years of diplomatic relations with China, aiming to attract more Chinese tourists for the remainder of 2025. Announced by the government this morning, the event reflects Thailand's strategic efforts to boost its tourism sector.

 

Deputy government spokesperson Ms. Sasikarn Wattanachan revealed that Thailand has already welcomed over 13 million international tourists in the first five months of the year, generating over 630 billion baht in tourism revenue. Notably, South Korean tourist numbers surged by 10%, moving them from the eighth to the fourth-highest visiting group.

 

From January 1 to May 18, 2025, Chinese and Indian tourist arrivals also saw modest increases of 2.18% and 1.34%, respectively. Recent statistics show a weekly influx of 464,531 foreign tourists, with Malaysia, China, India, South Korea, and Laos topping the list of visiting nations.

 

To harness this momentum, the Tourism Authority of Thailand is spearheading "Sawasdee Ni Hao," scheduled for May 28 to June 1, 2025. This event will bring together 300 Chinese tour operators and 200 influencers from various provinces to engage with 500 Thai tour operators. The initiative aims to rekindle and strengthen the tourism link between the two nations.

 

By celebrating Thai-Chinese ties through this major event, Thailand aspires to enhance its appeal as a prime travel destination for Chinese tourists. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to rejuvenate tourism and reinforce international connections, capitalising on diplomatic milestones to foster economic growth in the sector.

Make sure you don't say "Ni Hao" to a Thai they might not appreciate it much.

Chinese and people of Chinese origin in Singapore, Taiwan, Hongkong, and other neighboring areas aren't coming back to Thailand atleast till mid 2027... 

1st... down economic conditions in China.

2nd... Fear of Crime/ scams/ Kidnapping/human organ trade.

3rd... Higher cost in Thailand vis a vis other SE Asian countries...
