Now here’s where I’m looking for a bit of perspective. She recently brought up the idea of me helping her send money to her family. She mentioned around 30,000 baht a month would really help them out. I know that’s about double what she earns, but she didn’t demand it or push hard, just brought it up gently. She’s still working full time at the kiosk and hasn’t asked me for anything else.

 

I’ve never been in this kind of situation before. I always used to read posts on here and think “nah, I’d never be that guy”, but now here I am. And I’m honestly not sure how to feel about it. The truth is, I can afford it, I don’t really care about the money, and I am genuinely enjoying my time with her. She’s made my life feel lighter, happier. I don’t get any sense that I’m really being used, but I also know how brutally honest some of you can be, so I figured I’d throw it out there for some feedback.

 

If both of us are happy and it’s working, is there actually anything wrong with it? As I said, I don’t mind giving her the money. She makes me happy. So I’m thinking, why not.

I always advocate really taking your time here. Time is ALWAYS our ally, and never theirs. So take you time, get to know who she really is, and how she acts under duress. The vast majority of Thai people are way immature for their age. And many women and men are emotionally undeveloped, and really just 13 year olds, who look like adults. There is something about this society that does not allow most people to grow up with an understanding of themselves. I think face has something to do with it. The utter refusal to take responsibility for one's actions and the unwillingness to "own" a situation, and man up when you screw up. That and the inability to question people, and situations. And the subsequent lack of curiosity.

 

It is all a perfect storm, when it comes to preventing alot of people from becoming well developed human beings, with communication skills, and the tools needed to conduct meaningful relationships, beyond the surface.

It's not a great deal at all. You can get an 11 for considerably less, 9000 to 12000, due to the economic pecularities of Thailand.

 

That is what the bubble tea girl will be earning, between 9000 to 12000 Baht, no more.

 

The only trouble begins when you meet the female players, who had one of these guys who pays 30000 or more, then of course they'll ask for that. But there's plenty who won't and will be happy with 9000 to 12000.

She is now presenting the bill for all of the good times that you already had together. It's known as "playing the long game" - not asking for money at the beginning to make you think that the relationship is genuine, as that enables her to ask for substantially more money later.

 

Now that you know that the relationship has been and always will be based on the money you give her to support her "family", you should try to negotiate a better deal. See if she would be happy with half that amount (which is probably more than she earns) - paid weekly - at the end of each week. That way you're not out too much if she suddenly loses interest in you.

 

You can then give me 10,000 of the 15,000 that I saved you every month - and you'll still be ahead by 5,000 a month.
