I used to own a business in Australia. No customers here enters the amount. It's the business that enters the amount in an EFTPOS whether by POS system or manually. Aside from that when I'm in Thailand and paying the hotel for the room, or any other business that has an EFTPOS they do the same. They enter the fee. What stores do you go to so I can go to them and enter say 10 Baht instead of 1000 Baht for the fee? They would go broke in a week! The fact is you only,  as a customer, do is check the amount shown on the EFTPOS to see if it is correct and then if so swipe your card and type in your password if required!

This was not a card payment, it was by QR code.

As explained a few times in this topic, there are different ways that that QR are made in Thailand (this is not  Australia) .

Those that use QR payments in Thailand, have explained it clearly in this topic.

It might vary around the nation - but in BKK... I think 'most' is a fair claim...

Certainly in Bangkok I'm 99% cashless...    I can't think of a place in BKK that doesn't accept QR payment as the norm...  though I'm sure there are some...   but I see QR signs in wetmarkets etc..  so its common enough for there.

... The only time I do use cash is for a flagfall taxi...

I agree with you and anyone else who states cash should remain an option - it always should be an option. I've been critical of businesses which have gone 'Digital Payment Only' as they should as many payment options as possible.

I'm all for versatility and convenience - people should be 100% free to chose whatever payment option they prefer.

And thats what a lot of these debates come down to...  a simple preference, but I do see some silly justifications and arguments against cashless that can readily be countered with a simple basic common sense reply...   Still, its everyones right to just 'prefer something'...

I live in BKK

100% cash

as long as possible.

Over 100b for a coffee is cheap??? I never buy coffee out, but if I must it's 50-60b for black coffee. Drinking milk in coffee is for the women and the gay

Ever had 7 coffee? It's actually pretty decent . Like b30...

221.50 for 2 coffees? Huh?🙃🙃

Perfect example of the online payment risk. With cash, it just cannot happen.

Most people are not like you and would never consider trying to cheat the business. Besides, one shows the confirmation to the cashier. This aint OZ.
