Who are they? Does anyone know? They have taken a total of 1306. 78 Baht from my bank account 3 times in the last 3 months. First payment 344. 82, second 352. 77, third 509.19 Baht.

I have seen my bank about it, none of the staff can speak English so we used Google Translate to communicate with each other.

The teller showed me a list of all my transactions in the last 3 months and highlighted the 3 times this happened.

The teller I paid it with my bank card. How could I have paid it when I have never heard of Totalav.

So I just have to accept this. I have got the bank to close this account which now means I have to get a new bank card. How do I know this won't happen again? I have a debit card, does the bank not take any responsibility? Is this a Thai thing? It has never happened in all my years in the UK.

I had a mysterious charge attempted on my Bangkok bank debit card.  I had previously set the charge limit to 0, so it was rejected.  I followed up by calling the BBL customer service line and found out someone in USA attempted to buy something at Bass Pro Shop.  I didn't bother to get a new card as I so rarely use it now that I have become accustomed to using QR codes for purchases and cardless withdrawals at the ATM.  Every couple of months somebody tries my card but is again refused as the limit is always 0 except for a minute or two when I actually need to use it.  I will let my card expire when it comes due.  I'm leaving BBL anyway as now they have terminated the ability to transfer $$ via 'cash advance' on foreign debit cards.  I had funded our house build using that method because there were zero fees and VISA's exchange rate was very competitive (and occasionally better) when compared with WISE, SWIFT, etc.

So how did you discover it as it seems you do not check your account very often if they took 3 payments before you realised.....?

Somehow they got hold of your details presumably from another transaction at some point.

I suggest you monitor your new card a bit more closely when you get it......

You don't mention which bank but if you use the app you can normally freeze the card similar to what @gamb00ler mentions above until you need to use it.

I freeze my SCB Mastercard after every transaction. Also get a notification straight away if the card is used.

I only keep my BB account open to transfer money by using Wise. They took 2000Bt from my account from two different companies in Cyprus who I had never heard of. I cancelled my debit card and transferred my money to a different bank leaving only 2000Bt in my BB.

I now use Krungthai bank. I use my card regularly so never noticed such a small amount, I got suspicious when I checked my app and saw money taken out on that same day.

If I freeze the card and then want to use it after banking hours what do I do?

Online banking theoretically never sleeps...........(apart from maintenance and outages.....)

If as you say, you don't use the debit card, just set the charge limit to zero.  If you ever need to do a cash deposit at a machine, your debit card is needed for that purpose.  The other day I prepaid for a small surgery but the final bill was less than what I prepaid.  The clinic gave me the refund in cash so I deposited it using a CDM machine with my debit card.
