Report Bhumjaithai Party Faces EC Probe Over Alleged Senate Election Collusion

The Bhumjaithai Party is under scrutiny as the Election Commission (EC) summons key figures over allegations of collusion in last year's Senate election. Party leader Anutin Charnvirakul acknowledged being among those called, suggesting the move could be politically motivated, hinting at whispers of potential party dissolution.

 

On Monday, Anutin, who also serves as Interior Minister, disclosed that he received the EC's summons at his Buri Ram residence. Although details of his alleged involvement in vote-rigging remain scarce, he plans to consult legal experts and fully cooperate with authorities.

 

Among 20 individuals recently summoned are influential figures like Bhumjaithai patriarch Newin Chidchob, party secretary-general Chaichanok Chidchob, and MPs Koravee and Paradorn Prissanananthakul. This latest group lifts the total number called to 164.

 

Anutin dismissed the notion that these summonses signal division within the ruling coalition, asserting that the issue remains political. "Political circles know the origins of this," he stated, vowing to address the matter legally, confident that the party has acted lawfully.

 

He also brushed aside rumours about a potential shake-up of his role as Interior Minister. Similarly, MP Koravee confirmed his and Paradorn's involvement, noting identical statements in their summons letters except for their names.

 

Koravee anticipates discussing the EC's probe during a party meeting, as the inquiry seems to target the party as a collective rather than singling out individuals.

The Bhumjaithai Party continues to navigate these legal challenges, maintaining that they will operate within the bounds of the law while defending their political stance and unity.

Obviously the whole Senate "election" was bent. The whole thing was a farce. The House and the Senate should be dissolved with fresh national elections for both houses.

Yes, but - you what that would mean when the wrong people garner the majority of votes.

Not sure what you mean. Who are the "wrong people"? Last election the "right people" won the majority of votes but obviously for the military elite establishment they're the "wrong people". Indeed any party who's progressive and wants to change the status quo are considered the wrong people by the military elite establishment.
