The parade must go on, and the Army sidestepped a major crisis of image and messaging

"The Army’s 250th birthday parade was not the grand military spectacle that many anticipated, and for that Americans can breathe a momentary, measured sigh of relief. It was a family-friendly conclusion to a celebratory day, with events on the Mall and fireworks at the end. What had been billed as an overwhelming display of military might turned out to be a linear history lesson, from the early days of revolution to the age of robotic dogs and flying drones.

A narrator made sense of it all over loudspeakers and for those watching the live stream on television, with a script that rarely strayed from the Army’s disciplined sense of itself as a lethal fighting machine in the service of democracy and the Constitution.

...

The president was supposedly inspired to demand a military parade, an exceptionally rare event in recent U.S. history, after seeing a very different display on Bastille Day 2017, on the Champs-Élysées in Paris.

Since the mid-1970s, some conservatives referred to the Post as "Pravda on the Potomac" because of its perceived left-wing bias in both reporting and editorials.

You obviously haven't been paying attention recently. Since Jeff Bezos took over, the Washington Post has drastically changed its outlook.

And who says so? Donald Trump.

President Trump is offering rare praise of a media executive, Jeff Bezos, the billionaire founder of Amazon and owner of The Washington Post, alluding to a slew of changes he has made to the newspaper in recent months.

It will be interesting to see how the Washington Post readers react to the Bezos driven changes.

Having being presumably broadly content with "Pravda on the Potamac", for many years, will they remain with the new direction being taken?

What a ridiculous thread. The parade was for the 250th birthday of the army and what it did was represent the history of the 250 years of the army. It was never meant to be a Soviet style or Nth Korean style show of force. This was the narrative from the deranged left. It's those on the left who sprouted this nonsense that should be embarrassed.

From the transcript of Trump's Army 250th parade speech:

Time and again, America's enemies have learned that if you threaten the American people, our soldiers are coming for you.

Your defeat will be certain, your demise will be final, and your downfall will be total and complete because our soldiers never give up, never surrender, and never, ever quit. They fight, fight, fight and they win, win, win.

From Knute Rockne's newsreel simulation of locker room Pep-talk speech 1928:

And don't forget, men -- today is the day we're gonna win. They can't lick us -- and that's how it goes... The first platoon men -- go in there and fight, fight, fight, fight, fight! What do you say, men!

The claim about where Trump got the idea is bs. Its because putin, xi, and Kim all have huge military parade.   They are all laughing at the buffoon Trump and his attempts to break into that level of power.  His ego is a bit bruised although he'll find someone to blame. I think its hilarious that the military didn't even buy in to the charade
