Thailand is stepping up legal steps against Cambodia's Senate President Hun Sen, citing threats to national security after an audio leak. The Cybercrime Investigation Bureau (CIB) was engaged following the release of a conversation between Hun Sen and the Thai prime minister dating back to June 15.

The complaint was lodged by Somkid Chuekong, Deputy Secretary-General to the Thai Prime Minister. He claims Hun Sen could have used the leaked audio clip to his advantage and that it was politically motivated, violating Thai law in the process.

The CIB has been called upon to act, highlighting the potential for applying Thai law to individuals abroad who imperil the nation's security.

Pol Lt Gen Trairong Phiwpan of the CIB reinforced that Thai law is enforceable on both local and foreign nationals outside Thailand if national security is at risk, drawing parallels with past international fraud cases.

Once the complaint's source is identified, actions could involve liaising with the Cambodian Embassy via the Office of the Attorney General.

The CIB is now tasked with identifying the leak's origin. If traced beyond Thai borders, further diplomatic coordination will be crucial in serving formal documents on Hun Sen.

As the situation unfolds, the possibility of extradition remains a question mark, contingent on ongoing investigations and political dynamics.

This legal development marks an intriguing intersection of regional politics and cybersecurity. While the focus remains on evidential groundwork, the international dimension might compel the Cambodian Embassy's involvement.

There's no doubt that Hun Sen leaked this tape, what his motivations were is anybody's guess. The man is a pig and a despot and anytime anybody goes after him it's a good thing for humanity, so I sure hope he's feeling the squeeze right now. But, I doubt he feels anything. Worms don't have sensation.

Nothing better to do - sack them all, just a waste of space and money

Will there be a happy ending ?

In any event, Hun Sen has diplomatic immunity.

There is unwritten code that personal calls at this level should remain private. Leaking it is bad form. Hardly surprising with Hun Sen he’s evil incarnate.

He said that he sent it to around 80 people in various departments inside Cambodia, I think I read this in a Phnom Penh post article a few days back.

The implication being that any one of them could have leaked it.....

Well the Thai cyber police and associates should go straight over the border arrest Hen Sen and deport him to Thailand. That will teach him.

He did, he stated yesterday that he could make it public if Thailand wants, that there was nothing untoward on it.
