Appears it's all over.  Royal Gazette yesterday.

These regulations are set to be enforced immediately after publication in the Royal Gazette, marking a significant shift in the management of cannabis sales and use in the country.

Like all new markets there has been an over saturation of outlets, everybody and his mother seems to have opened a shop, this will change

fewer outlets, better quality control will not destroy the market, it will just bring it in line with normal commercial enterprises

I want to say, I said so back then when everyone thought cannabis was legalized, but talking to death ears.

The rules was clear, but over night everyone thought recreational use and sale was legal, which it was not.

Still some claim it was, and those who invested heavily in the business, acts like they are the victims.

For the users, this will still not change anything as long they stay out of public.

Can't cure ......

Businesses are always at risk, yet the dirty money involved in the weed trade can swallow it.

Exactly.... I think there are about 20,000 weed shops and lets say each shop has  one owner and at least 2 employees so thats 60,000 people....And lets throw in another 10,000 for growers and suppliers ........So there is 70,000 minimum people out of work ...

Somsak Thepsuthin had no problem saying Tony was a very sick man who needed 6 months in a hospital but does not seem to give a rats a$$ about putting 70,000 people out of work.....Somsak Thepsuthin has no ethics....Its just who has biggest brown envelope...

Their own stupid fault...it was only decriminalised for medicinal purposes...I do not feel sorry for them

Back to mouldy brickweed and getting followed home from.reggae bars by plainclothes corrupt cops. Big step back for Thailand and citizens health & wealth.

Don't suppose my overseas dr prescription and pharmacy dispensed weed can be taken to Thailand when we nxt visit?

Please don't be this foolish, never ever take cannabis with you when entering Thailand.

The Straits Times reported that all shops will now be required to have a doctor on premise at all times. Seems like a lot of overhead unless of course all they are their to do is write prescriptions for anyone look to buy bud. One thing is likely, this whole reversal is going to create as mush chaos as the original decriminalization

For all those feeling sorry for shop owners etc...

Their own stupid fault...it was only decriminalised for medicinal purposes...I do not feel sorry for them. Or anyone who took advantage of it.

Nope, when it was removed from a list of forbidden substances it became automatically legal.

One should not rely on Cannabis promoters for data, as they have embellished the numbers to support their view that they  are a valuable industry. Let's review what we do know;

- Thai nationals can grow cannabis for personal use, but commercial growers need licenses. Statista says that there were 1900 licensed commercial growers in Thailand.

- According to the BBC's report today; There are now around 11,000 registered cannabis dispensaries in Thailand

- Cannage Cannabis a medicinal producer in 2024 stated that there were 9.700 licensed cannabis shops

Medicinal cannabis will still be available. I expect that we will soon see the  M&A of the industry speed up. 1900 cultivators is too many. Nor is there a need for 11,000 cannabis dispensaries.

70,000 people will not be out of work. The money laundering shops will close, but the medicinal use dispensaries will continue.

Funny you mention money laundering,i mentioned that somewhere and two people attacked me over that.

If it’s for medical use, and need an dr present for sales, wouldn’t it be more natural the existing legal pharmacies takes over the distribution ?

This move follows concerns about rising cannabis use since its decriminalisation in 2022

If you actually read what was written in the royal gazette announcement that a member has already uploaded here, you would see that it is not a requirement to have a Dr present for sales , only if people are smoking on the premises

I suggest you read it before commenting further

We simply observe, and then guess and opine wrong.

People here said, "NO, the genie is already out of the bottle!!!"   wrong.

Nobody called this, yet here we are.

Can only imagine all the wise thoughts flowing about what's next.

Zero percent that will be correct.

So, you're saying the higher-ups don't read our comments???????????????????

It's sort of odd, as the government doesn't appear to be currently sitting.

So they're currently issuing laws without the backing of parliament.

And when they do return on 3rd July, they are facing a no confidence vote called by BJT.

Anyways, my supplier has hired a doctor, prescription included with every order, no extra charge.

I think they were doing the same in the USA, buy in the shop, video call with doctor (in India) on shop tablet, prescription issued with no extra charge, all done while you wait.

Thailand will get a big time super bad press attention from this if it happens, that is guaranteed. Like the last nail in the coffin if they make this move.
