In Ratchaburi, a police officer, reportedly intoxicated, drove against traffic, resulting in the death of a 64-year-old woman on 26th June. The collision occurred at 7:55am on Song Phon Road, near an Isuzu showroom.

Captured on video by a nearby motorist, the incident shows a black Honda HR-V SUV speeding against traffic towards motorcyclists. While some riders managed to evade the vehicle, Juthathip, aged 64, was struck, thrown into the air, and landed on the road. Despite rescue attempts, she died on the way to the hospital.

The SUV driver, identified as a police major from the Provincial Police Investigation Division, initially refused a breathalyser test, citing chest pain. He was taken to Ban Pong Hospital for treatment. Superintendent Kobchok Lektrakul stated that a blood alcohol test was conducted, though results are pending.

The officer faces charges of reckless driving causing death, potentially leading to a 10-year prison sentence and a 200,000 baht fine. Additional charges may follow based on blood test outcomes.

This incident follows a string of similar crashes involving allegedly intoxicated officers. Recent accidents in Nakhon Si Thammarat and Songkhla also resulted in fatalities, raising concerns over police conduct and accountability.
