A group cycling trip turned into a terrifying ordeal when a pickup truck collided with a high-end bicycle in Bang Phli, injuring two riders and causing extensive damage to a bicycle valued at over 500,000 baht.

The incident occurred at approximately 10:30 on 28 June, along the Suvarnabhumi canal-side road in Bang Pla Subdistrict. Dashcam footage from a following vehicle captured the moment a bronze Isuzu pickup truck, struck a cyclist who had moved into the right-hand lane.

The impact sent both the cyclist and his expensive bicycle hurtling across the road, while a female companion riding behind lost control and fell after braking hard on loose sand. Both cyclists sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Emergency services from Bang Phli Rescue were alerted via the 1669 hotline and quickly arrived on scene to administer first aid. The injured were later transported to Chularat Suvarnabhumi Hospital for further treatment.

According to witnesses from the group, which consisted of ten cyclists riding in a single file in the left-most lane, the collision occurred so suddenly that most only realised what had happened after the impact. The cyclist struck was riding a premium-brand road bike, with components and accessories bringing its value to over half a million baht.

Shockingly, the driver of the pickup fled the scene without offering assistance.

Pol. Lt. Col. Pongnarin Nontanok, the investigating officer from Bang Phli Police Station, visited the scene and has launched an investigation. Authorities are working to identify and summon the pickup driver for questioning and legal proceedings.

Why is the Driver of the Pickup driving off ? The bycicle is crossing over into his lane without looking. Nothing he Pickup could do to prevent the accident. Clearly the idiot (once more) is the driver of the (oh so expensive Hiso) bycicle. Only reason would be drunk/drugs or no registration or licence (or expired).

Half a million for a bicycle?

That's more than racing bikes at Tour de France.

Golden brake levers?

Obviously a rich kid.

The bicycle seems to be unwisely positioned on the carriageway,

There is no evidence whatsoever in the video to indicate that the bicycle was in the process of "crossing over into his lane".

The evidence seems to indicate that the pickup driver utterly failed to read the traffic ahead of him and/or did not take appropiate action to avoid collision or, rather more worryingly, deliberately manouvered in order to hit the cyclist.

I've watched the video over a few times...  early on, it appears that it 'might be' the bicyclist that swerved across lanes...   Very difficult to see with the poor cam quality and low frame rate... but something appears to cut across the path - unless its just a video artifact.. (at the 4 second mark in the video).

IF the bike swerved - the pickup driver had no chance to avoid him really.

IF the bike was positioned in that lane, it really shouldn't have been - but the pickup driver should have seen him.

Driving off was a scummy think to do - its high time we see people charged for fleeing an accident.
