A fire broke out on the afternoon of 29 June, at the nurses’ dormitory known as “Paet Rai” (Eight-Rai) within the Siriraj Hospital compound in Bangkok’s Bangkok Noi district, prompting an immediate emergency response. Firefighters successfully brought the blaze under control, with no injuries reported, but one person was safely rescued from a lift.

The incident was first reported at approximately 12:30, by the Ruam Sairadio centre. Fire and rescue teams from Bang Khun Non Fire Station were immediately dispatched to the scene, located on Rot Fai Road in Siriraj subdistrict.

Upon arrival firefighters encountered smoke emanating from the basement level of the multi-storey building. Initial assessment revealed that the lower floors of the structure serve as a car park, while floors 12 through 22 house the nurses’ residential dormitories.

Emergency crews launched an operation to contain the blaze and located the origin of the fire in the building’s basement. Firefighters in breathing apparatus used water hose-lines to suppress the flames.

In a potentially life-threatening development during the incident, one woman was reported to be trapped in a lift. Rescue personnel responded and managed to safely release her. She was unharmed.

After about an hour, authorities confirmed that the fire had been successfully brought under control. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

The Siriraj Hospital administration has confirmed that there were no casualties and the fire did not spread to any patient care areas. The hospital remains fully operational.

Further details, including the cause of the fire and any damage to the building, are expected to emerge following a full investigation by fire and forensic authorities.
